Assuming your average cookie-cutter nanofit solo Mach with an XL ASB, would one use Crystals or Snakes?

I am leaning towwards Snakes, but can't help but feel that Crystals would add a very nice punch to the ASB when in an 'oh ****' situation....

Thoughts?

L4 missions right? I prefer speed over extra boost. Just make sure you pop those webbing rats first.

Crystals could work if you're unsure about your tank.

Hi there! Thanks for the response. I was thinking solo/small gang PvP, but can see why snakes would work well in level 4s. Thanks for the tip.

Snakes all the way in Mach. It lives and breathes by controlling range and speed.

Snakes, OGB, combat booster (strong is yummy)

BS dps, above regular ceptor speed, assault frig agility, nasty tank. But you can get in serious trouble when Arazus/Lachesis are fitted also with TD's supporting Tengus, just try to gtfo asap and fight another day unless you feel those are very yarrupid.

Assuming you have loki links, what are snakes going to allow you to outrun that you can't already? With OGB you should at least be doing +2000m/s which will allow you to outrun pretty much everything cept vaga's/cyna's/ceptors. You just overheat ur mwd and neut them and you should be just fine either catching them or running away from them. If you happen to slip up and get tackled it's probably just gonna be because you messed up rather then your ship being too slow. So if you get tackled it'd be nice to have a little bit more tank. Having a bit more tank would allow you stay on field longer as well without having to burn as many cap boosters running your booster. Honestly though I'd say you can't really go wrong either way, just more about preference imo.

Thanks all. I went with snakes in the end before the other posts so didn't have a chance to consider them. Might try out crystals at some point though. Didn't think of Nomads, they're the ones that reduce sig radius aren't they? Interesting.

Yeh my bad. I was thinking of Halos I think. Am new the the world of pirate implants! (i.e. been afraid of losing them in the past!!)

Suppose with align time it would also help you get up to speed faster under MWD as a side effect?

They're still like 80% of the price of a set of HG Snakes though. So IMO they're more or less reserved for exclusive lowsec use or supers.

I have extensively used both a HG Snake set and a Nomad set (well, a Shaqil's speed enhancer instead of the Nomad omega) with a Machariel for PvP.

I used the Nomad set for ganking ratters and for gatecamps in very small gangs (3-5 people) in hostile space. I can honestly say the Nomads probably only saved my ship once, thereby not justifying the cost of the implants, although I did have fun with them. I got a huge kick out of warping out in a battleship in under 4 seconds.

I used the Snakes for bumping supercaps out of POSes and for small to medium gang roams. Again I found it amusing going 2.3 km/s (3k with links) in a battleship, but I never felt it gave me a big enough advantage to justify the cost. While you can outpace most cruisers and HACs you can't outrun frigate sized ships, which coincidentally Machariels have a huge problem tracking with their guns.

If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have bought either implant set and instead would have spent the isk on more Machariels. At the same time however I don't regret buying them because I did use them and have some fun with them.

2 Things;

Machs are better with a half decent Deadspace XL Booster.

Snakes, every time.
