Computer safety setting, what does it do?

I noticed on the Buckingham that there is now a setting that lets you set if computer's safety level, to on, partial, or off. However from what I can tell, it doesn't seem to do anything, with the safety on I can still attack friendly targets, and get blown up, and with safety off, I still get the warning message saying something like "Are you sure you want to do this?"
I was guessing that it was a replacement for all those warnings about doing illegal activity, but it doesn't seem to do much.

On a related note, should I be able to attack a station without getting attacked back by the sentry guns? because they aren't attacking me when I tried that.

It is meant to keep you from performing any acts that would flag you as suspect or criminal, so unless you're in an area where that can happen and doing things that would trigger those flags, you should see no difference.

When I tested it, it worked: I tried to shoot a neutral target in highsec with my safety full on by locking it and pressing F1, and all I got was an angry blink from the module and the safety light to denote that I couldn't do that with the current settings.

I suppose there could be some nice bug in there where you've managed to turn off the same settings elsewhere by storing settings for the old “are you sure?” popups, but I didn't come across any when I tried it. Maybe check your settings if there's anything there that needs to be reset?

Hmm, how long ago did you try this? anyway I'll need to give it another try here at some point, and check again.

it only does things in high/lowsec

Partial will stop you from doing things like stealing from cans
disabling it will let you shoot people you aren't allowed to shoot.

Oh, a while ago, so it could be something has changed (or… well… broken) in a later build.

But as mentioned above, make sure to test it where criminal and suspect flagging actually exists.

From what I remember, the green level should disallow any action that would trigger any kind of flagging. The yellow level lets you do “suspect” acts (theft, mostly) without any kind of stop or warning, but will still stop you from doing “criminal” acts. The red level lets you do anything at any time without a peep of warning.

The problem is really that you need other players (or their stuff) to test it — attacking NPCs only ever triggers NPC aggression and I seem to recall (but don't quote me) that those are not covered by the safeties. You need a wreck or a can or a POS (or a ship) in highsec to loot and shoot at for the best results.

Ah, well that might be it then, I didn't have a player target to test it on, only tested it on NPCs.

Still limiting it to just PvP seems to not be using it to it's full advantage imo.
