Shuttle Pricing in The Forge

I use Jita for supplies when my local trade hub doesn't work and I need somebody to help me understand something here.

I was browsing the market in Jita and noticed that shuttles are priced at 30,000 - 50,000 ISK and they have been that price for a very long time.

An unresearched BPO with my skills (PE5) will take 2,750 Tritanium to produce, so that's about 16,225 ISK to produce.

Every other region I've checked (The Citadel, Metropolis, Heimatar, etc) the pricing is 14-20k per shuttle on the market.

I thought at first it might be somebody is screwing with the market for them, but going back 6 months you can see the pricing has remained fairly consistent. Even going back 12 months you can see the pricing has remained consistent.

So why are shuttles so overpriced in Jita? Shouldn't the spread between cost and price be much closer to each other like they are in other regions?

They call it the "Jita Premium" for a reason. Its really not difficult to profiteer from certain items, especially for something like a shuttle. If people want one its likely they just need to zip out somewhere relatively quickly and don't mind shelling out 50k to do it since you can make that back very quickly in pretty much any chosen profession.

Jita is the worst place to buy most things really. It just happens to have everything in one gankable undock.

I get the whole premium part, but the spread between production cost and sell orders is huge for shuttles and I'm trying to wrap my head around why all the 0.01 ISKers haven't dropped the sell order value down to a small spread over the past year.

The fact of the matter is, no matter how profitable an item is, if it sells to slow, then to little ISK is made.

I personally don't find it worth my time to manufacture shuttles, not even for 20K margins per shuttle, it is, thought a fairly alright starting point for entry level players.

If you see an opportunity don't ***** about it, jump on it. The reason why you're not jumping on it is probably why everyone is not jumping on it. It's a waste of time since it will only earn a pittance.

It is not just in the Forge.
I have noticed the same trend in my region (which boarders the Forge)
I have been making and selling huge heaping piles of shuttlecraft at 3-4x the cost of materials, lately.

I used to always have a few thousand shuttles for sale in my home system. the problem is a stack of 1000 shuttles takes months to sell. They have very low compression numbers so are not worth hauling large stacks to Jita. A 120% margin does not mean much if that margin only adds up to 20,000isk. And when the volume moved is as low as it is for shuttles it is just not worth the bother.

Moving around large piles of trit can be a real PITA. Wasting some of that stack on a run of shuttles is just that, a waste.
