So i joined a new corp, made up of mostly inexperienced players like myself, were having a pretty good chill time together. Then this Russian guy moves in and declares war on us. A single guy declares war on our corp and we can do nothing to stop him he's just to strong, gotta tier 3 strategic cruiser, most of us have tier 1 BC's at best. So i move out of the HQ solar system take three jumps away and I'm happily mining away and he comes in and ganks me. Alright its part of the game fair kill.

So i move further away, 20 jumps away, again im happily mining away and he ganks me again. There is no way in hell he just happened across me. And im getting extremely frustrated because the fact that a much stronger player can just roll over newer players with impunity is extremely annoying.

So my questions are:

1: How did he find me?

2: How can i prevent this from happening, i have 3 warp stabs and he can still prevent me from warping, i know i should keep an eye on local chat, any other suggestions?

3: I can't seem to do anything without him showing up to kill me, and i'm hemorrhaging ISK so should i just leave the corp?

1: Locator agent/service. There is no way for you to hide in normal space.

2: Kill him with your friends. Let me be clear on this, don't fight him in a good fight, gank his ass with him having no ability to fight back. E-war is especially good for this. ECM, neuts and heavy dampening will kill his ability to fight no matter what he is flying and remote reps allow you to tank everything he can throw at you. Work as a team, not as a group of solo pilots.

3: If you truly can't handle a single pilot no matter what you try, join a proper player corp.

+1

This coward is attacking noobs, it should give you all enough hate to unite together with your corpies and fight back.
If they don't want, then you're in the wrong corp. But please try before, try to lead them to the victory. If this guy is really alone then you can really win. Then if your corpies refuse it was not the right place for you.

Edit : oh, and about T3 cruisers against T1 BC, that doesn't mean much. It's not so much how expensive your ships are and how much SP you have which will bring you to the victory, but much more how you'll use them IN TEAM.

OP, you are in a tough spot, mainly because you are still a freshman. I second the call to fight back. If you fail it's good experience, if you win you get sweet explosive revenge. Eve is a sandbox, but you can't just do whatever you want. You'll need to fight for it! Good luck hunting this guy down Twisted he sounds like the type of douchebag that decs inexperienced, small corps for ganking fun. I'm sure there are some people around who will take this guy out for ISK, or just plainly because of white knightery.

Per above, he used a locator agent to find you. They're like normal agents but they have an extra option where you enter a player's name and a few minutes later it'll tell you in which system and station (if docked) that player is at.

You can avoid trouble on several levels.

1) be aware:

- have him added to your friend list so you know when he's online
- detach your local chat window from the others, make it really tall and have it set to compact members list, that way you'll have the best chance of noticing he's in your system
- avoid crowded systems where you might not see him because of the massive local list
- never fly anywhere without a neutral scout alt or fly in nano/MWD frigates
- never be afk while in space, never assume it's safe

2) stop being a target

- learn how to avoid trouble by learning simple game mechanics in regards to session timers, undocking tricks, bookmarks and all that
- learn about the ships they fly so you know what they can and can't do
- at corporation level, put in the effort to defend yourself and be prepared for an attack. Newbies who have been given some basic "training" are very capable of fending off and even killing fierce high SP PVPers, all you need is the "aha moment" and be in a corp with enough active players who also had that "aha moment".

In short, put in the effort to pay attention, learn some game mechanics, team up and get some help from an experienced player (by that I mean actual proper experience and knowledge, not just a player who's been around for a while) capable of conveying knowledge and information. Long term you probably want to be in a corp that has knowledgeable leadership and has some sort of quality control when it comes to recruitment, partially to avoid spies but also to have more active&invested (team)players. Most of the times a corp like that avoid wardecs in the first place and would they happen anyway they'd be better prepared for them.

Or... just create few alternative corporations, and move to them a soon as he declares war for one of them. Also can just move to NPC corporation untill he gets bored.
If anything - try to find srtonger corporation that could help you.

Hire merc's if you can afford it? Although being newbie might mean you can't afford it...

Believe you can't join another corp for a week or so if you leave your old one during a war or something.

It's to prevent exactly what you are suggesting, corp hopping to prevent wardecs.

1.) As said locator agents, the only way to run away from locator agents is go inside a WH.

2.) 3 warp stabs gives you 4 warp points, 2 scrams are enough for that (that is with basic plain T1 scrams without any ship or boosters).

Keep local open,
Add him to your watchlist
Team up in groups

3.) You can leave the corp, or start doing something while docked (I learned trading and production by wardecs).

Also maybe it's a nice time to shop for a corporation that suits you better, maybe one with more players in them and more experienced players that can fight back.

In general most griefer corps (but not all) focus on those who are easy kills. Being in one of those corps means you get more wardecs in general.

Surprised that no one has mentioned this yet but, he might also have an alt (spy) in the corporation. This way he can check where all undocked corp members are through world map (My Information -> My corp members now in space).

I try to play like I drive.

That everyone else is a damn fool except me.

This topic is similar in one I had about tracking. No matter if you are looking or being looked at. You become better at one by mastering the other.

Now, about the "Watch List". I have looked for and found nothing really explaining that function. Does it just alert you when the character is on-line?

It notifies you when someone on your watch list logs on or off and you can also see if the character is online (or not) through your contact list.

Add to watchlist has 2 functions

In people&places window you can tick a box such that People&Places will only show those that:

* Are on your watchlist
* Are currently online.

Other then that, people that log in or log out and are on your watch list will pop up on your screen (lower right corner). They will pop up with their avatar + name in a colored box (Red for logged off - Green for logged on).

When I was in null-sec and you saw shitload of enemy titan pilots log on suddenly, you knew they were about to bridge something (likely on YOUR head).

Same with campers, adding them to your watch list meant you could check if they logged off in system or jumped a gate when they disappear from local.

In high-sec wardecs, it's just a quick way to see who of your war targets is online.

Add them to your watch list and with -10 standings.
Now set your Peoples&Places to only show online persons and select the -10 standings. It will then only show those that are set -10 AND are online.

Ahhh! Brilliant!

I have three vic...um, I mean characters of interest, I am adding right now.

I did notice that in the "Contact Management" window, it had two boxes that you could check. It gives a hint of a third selection only being covered by the text window. You can't manipulate the CM window to see what else is there. What?

EDIT : Q on the local...

Can this be taken a step further to reflect them only in a local tab? It is hard to follow in high populous like Jita, when the local is constantly updating and flashing non stop.

You need to be carefull of this as I believe that it is seen as being an exploit.

This just seems more like being...evasive, to me.

Burn his corp with dec shield.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=156437&find=unread

On the other hand, if you're a miner and getting bumped rather than ganked you'll have to start doing stuff yourself so using the war as a training course in cheap frigate warfare isn't a bad idea. After you're finished letting him teach ya some stuff THEN burn his corp for maximum gain out of it.

First to cover:

No, you can't change anything about local so it only shows your contacts.

Local shows everybody or recent speakers (or nothing in W-space unless spoken).

The contact management question I don't really get.

But what I make of it, the contact options are:

1.) Standings (-10, -5, 0, 5, 10)
2.) Tick box for add contact to watchlist
3.) Send Notification to < character name > + text box

number 3 will sent a notification about which standing you gave someone + the text box text.

If you then open Peoples&Places - People tab:

On left hand just above the menus with all standings different there is tick box that says 'online only' if that is ticked only online people will show in your People&Places.

After zooming in on my CM window, it seems that only one of all the contacts has this...phenomena.

In ref to number 3, there are 4 dots under the first word "Send". Two under the (S) and two under the (d).

I have no idea what it is. It gives the illusion that the text box is covering up a third check box option. I'm not going to worry about then. Thank you for the reply. As always they are duly noted.

I just need verification on the local setting. I keep it minimized all the time, anyway. I just thought by customizing a tab, I could actually fine use of it.P

1 man corps dont care about dec shield 9 times out of 10. Easy to make a new 1 man corp..

Agree tho with above advice, add him to watch list and just be a bit on your toes. If you like to mine AFK you deserve everything you get, if not then you will see him pop up on watch list and know to take evasive action.

It is possible for new players to team up in t1 bc and kill a t3 cruiser.
