Just wondering (before I fork over large amounts of isk) is a Rorqual able to be used in high sec?

Can it jump in high sec? Can it use normal gates etc?

The Rorqual's a full-fledged capital ship; it can't use jump gates. It can only transit systems by its own jump drive to cynosural fields, which can't be lit in hi-sec.

Thought it was something like that, just wasn't sure as couldn't find anything in game describing that... (should have learnt by now.. CCP and documenting game feature? unpossible!)

So an orca would be a better purchase? Basically looking to cart a few ships around, maybe a small pos for manufacturing etc.

Can an orca hold repackaged ships? Or only fully setup ships?

it has 400,000 m3 of space for assembled ships.
there's also 40,000 m3 of space in the corporate (soon to be fleet) hanger.
and i think the base cargo is about the same as the corp hangar but increases with skills/modules.

Yep. If you want to put expanders, etc on it (lowers your tank, fair warning), you can bring it to around 100k m3 fairly easily.

No you can't.
Capital ships that you can use in high sec are Orca, common freighter and jump freighter.
Jump freighters being the only Capital ships able to jump directly from high sec to their alt or stationary corporation/alliance cyno beacon in low/null

However, you need the regular cyno (alt capable for jumps to stations) and know how to use it (use salvager with tactical overlay and at max distance you ship will not bump dozens km's away)
You can't jump from null/low sec to high sec because high sec Cyno interdiction. You have to jump in to low sec and then only to high sec.

Rorkal can't use normal gates and since there is an high sec cyno interdiction it can't jump to high sec.

Wow. all very interesting. None of this is available information ingame.. Did people figure all this out by trial and error?!

But thanks for the feedback. I really think i'll stick to an Orca for the moment.

I was referring to Rorqual not being able to use gates or jump into high sec...

If memory serves me right... the limitations for capital ships were released by the DEVs via blogs and the patch notes when they were introduced. Since then it has been passed down by the players themselves.

Generally speaking, anyone who is considering getting a capital ship should hang out or talk with people who already have them. Edit: AND... have someone more experienced light a cyno for you the first few times (I made that mistake once and jumped to someone who didn't know how to light them "properly." Never again).

yeah, it kinda is one of those "if you've got the skills and isk to use one, you'll already be aware of it" kind of things.

This. In general I don't jump JFs or Rorquals to cynos lit by other people. There are very few pilots that I trust to light a station cyno for my JF and all those are JF pilots themselves. Basically there are two issues:

1) I don't trust them not to lit the cyno in middle of hostile group.
2) I don't trust that they can do it properly so that I'll land in the docking range without risk of bumping away.
