Hey Devs,

I was thinking about an improvement for the game and I'd like your input on the idea. You know how we can research BPOs to make them better for time research, manufacturing, etc?

I was thinking that maybe CCP could come up with a system and/or a skill set that would allow pilot mechanics to 'retool' or jury-rig a specific module. I.E.- Re-engineer a single module or turret or missile bay or bunch of ammo that would make it shoot better/use less energy-CPU/cause more damage (insert appropriate improvement here...)

It could be balanced out by only working on that specific piece of equipment of ammo that is re-engineerd. Once it is destroyed, its lost forever. Further balanced by not being able to sell it on the market or contracts so that one person can't unbalance game play.

I think it would fit in the game nicely. CCP would obviously work in fail safes so some monkey couldn't make Lead rounds do 2000 times damage. But you get the idea.

What do you think? Viable?

You mean like increase the Meta level of an item? No, I don't think that's a good idea. If you'd propose functionality to research BPO to higher meta-level I might be listening.

No. EVE has full market for a reason and this would kind of a counter that.

No. Sorry.

there would be only 1 thing that would be the best and nothing else would be used.

I dunno, maybe some sort of invention-like mechanic to produce meta T1 item BPCs would be good. Reduce reliance on loot drops, increase production and mineral demand.

Bad idea in my view.

Removing meta drops and making them manufacturable instead would hurt mission runners income a lot and require them just to shoot more drones to get isk which in turn... might dissuade a lot of the newer eve players from even going the missioning route.

You can improve the item currently with research. It's called... Invention.

T2 is better than most meta items and is working fine as it is.

It might be quite cool if invention produced more granular results rather than binary success/fail - spitting out meta items might be a way to do that.

So the chance of complete failure is less (as is the chance of complete success, 25/25%?) but in the mid range (50%?) meta 1-4 is produced. BPC output - rather than fiddling with a specific module though.

However as a gate way to invention (invention-lite?) allowing players to 'upgrade' equipment meta levels might be ok (using the same sort of materials as with invention?), same interface and systems just on a smaller scale to the existing invention game.
