This is a very elementary question, but they say you will revert back to your childhood when you get elderly.

While setting up bookmarks and looking at a current system, it shows the orbit of celestial objects.

Do the planets, moons and gates actually "orbit" or do they just remain stationary for all eternity?

For if they did orbit, your bookmarks would eventually get better (ie, even more isolated) or worse (ie end up at a POS).

Unfortunately planets are stationary objects within EvE, so the planets don't orbit the sun. It would be pretty cool if there was, but like you said, it would pose problems with bookmarks/orientation issues etc.

I can only imagine the screams and whining already by all people who have supers/titans logged of at a POS that isn't stationairy anymore.

Log in 1 day later and suddenly your expensive shiny ship is not in the shields anymore.

They could implement a tether. There is already Tractor Beams. Everything else should be held in its own grav orbit.

Or just don't, maybe people will actually use them then, instead of keeping them in the POS shield as a nice space decoration.
