I really hope someone.. anyone can help me with this....

Can anyone tell me, how I would go about calculating the distance between two solar systems. Say if I wanted to make a jump planner of my own?

Take the X,Y,Z coordinates of the solar systems from the data dump and create the vector distance between two given systems. The value is then in meters. As per Wikipedia, 1 light-year = 9460730472580800 meters.

(Side question: What are you looking for in a jump planner to make your own that is not available in the existing ones?)

Well, they oughta know what to do with them hogs out there for shure.
