Some people find the game to be, a game, and have a laugh, a few days ago we were sat on a gate, in RRBS and an XLASB raven jumps in, realising immediatlely that 6 Abaddongs would spell his end, he simply typed before decloaking "GF :)"

We laughed, had a little chat in local, and some fun.

It is the loser who has to say "gf" first. The winners should not say it first. If they do, it usually appears like smacktalk (unless the fight was obviously really awesome for both sides).

I myself am accustomed to w-space where it is uncommon to say anything in local, so I usually forget to type "gf" in local even when I was fighting in k-space.

Solo pilot warps or jumps into a bubble in 0.0 and is blabbed 20v1.

Some scrub in the blab says "GF" in local. What good fight?

Is the person trying to be rude or are they terrible at the game and think that it was actually a GF?

Maybe they are just being polite (and perhaps a little ironic)

Whenever I'm leading a fleet of people and we gank someone I always tell them to put GF in local. After all, we all want to follow the correct Honourable Rules of EVE PvP don't we?

Too many people get angry about their spaceship being blown up in a multiplayer spaceship game.

Good fight, is just something you say. It's a simple courtesy you extend another pilot even if the odds were against them.

I would probably consider it rude or sarcastic if you said it to someone in a hauler, but if the other person is looking for a fight or trying to fight back then its just common courtesy. It's like saying, you fought, and that's what counts.

By extension, popping a cyno ship in anything short of an active invasion by enemy capitals is also not a good fight. You've just killed a ship that can't move, can't shoot, and can't tank. Good job - you may now advance one level and attempt to shoot noob ships in rookie systems.

Otherwise, it's simply courtesy to the losers of the fight. I try and always offer a gf in local when I win (or lose) a fight, regardless of the odds. The fact that the opposition actually took the field and tried to fight (or escape) makes my time fun, which is why I play the game in the first place.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

I get this a lot.

I especially love it when you kill several of them before going down and they instasmack you as if they had just accomplished something amazing.

but I generally say GF regardless of the outcome, if I get ganked or if i get utterly demolished. Its just nice to get a fight either way.

I would point out that it would be easier to say "GF" if it was indeed a "good fight".

You find someone (or several someones, if you're feeling confident) and attack them in low/ null? That's a good fight, win or lose, and while one of you is warping out in their pod, saying "GF" is a nice way of letting someone know that they were a worthy enemy.

Someone gets blobbed on a gatecamp with no chance of survival? No, that's really not a good fight. However, I will point out, one person typing "GF" into local is one less person trying to shoot your pod after your ship goes up in smoke.

Just assume they are trying to be polite, unless it is iimmediately followed with derisive smack talk. It will significantly lower your nerd rage levels. Smile

Anything can be considered rude....

If you think they were rude, come back with friends...

That's what great about eve, if someone annoys you that much you can kill them...

But really, caring about what they say?

Not worth the time.

I don't get in many fights, but if it's a even-sided fight and both parties had a good time from it, then I'd say GF.
Being ganked or blobbed is not a GF. Its aforementioned ganking or blobbing and not cool if its 20 dessies vs a frig.

Manners in eve? PshhhhBlink

Only time you'll see me post "GF" in local is if it's actually a good fight (call me old fashioned). If i roll some scrub that had no chance, there is no chance of a "GF" as it was not a GF.
