How Do People Feel About the Watchlist?

I am pretty sure most of the time people use the watchlist they are not using it as intended. How many people really use their watch list to keep track of online friends? Like noone right? We all use the watch list to keep an eye on enemy threats, mainly super-cap pilots.

So do you guys like having alerts every time an enemy supercap pilot comes on? Do you like alerts going out to your enemies every time one of your super cap pilots comes online? Although it doesn't adversely affect me, I don't approve of the free intel. It's rather immersion breaking for me.

It would be a simple fix, you don't get alerts from your watchlist unless you are on each other's watchlists. No mutual watch list no alert.

watch what ?

AHHH that.I find it verry usefull tbh.I rarely use it for friends online as they are in the same chats as me.But to keep an eye on certain foes , to see if someone i want to have a trade conversation with is online , to see if that guy who has item X on contracts get's on so we can discuss his price, for war targets , etc

I add and remove at least 3 times a week someone from the list.

We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid.

I wouldn't go so far as saying it's not being used as intended, since when you add a contact you have the option to set them as -10.

I do.

I support the idea of showing up on a mutual watchlist only. I have to admit, I like being able to check if Pirate McSuchandsuch is online at this very time, but it would benefit emergent gameplay if I didn't know, and had to scout the system beforehand to be sure. It's kind of dumb I can see Pirate McSuchandsuch just logged on, even if he's half a universe away. I should be getting that intel through gameplay, not through automated notifications.

I only use it to keep track of friends.

I am a subcap pilot, and pretty certain I am not on very many watch lists. I have plenty of enemy capital pilots on my watch list, so I definitely make use of the WL. Just because I use it, doesn't mean I am too stupid or too selfish to realize it's wrong.

The watch list should be two ways. That is, if someone puts you on a watch list, you should know who did it so you know who is watching you.

It's useful in PvP, especially for monitoring war decs or, as stated above, keeping tabs on enemy Cap/Super Cap pilots and FCs. It's mostly a pvp assistance feature in my opinion, as you keep tabs on people wanting to shove a hybrid charge through your pod and either avoid them or gank them.

Hostiles on watchlist can go, but then change locator agents to be able to locate multiple characters at the same time without having to wait, no timeout what so ever.

edit: and with increased locating range.

No, I read your post and I understood your point. You're just posting under an alt because you know that if you post under your main someone will find your loss that was probably caused by this very tactic.

A compramise, i could agree wit this. But this does need to be addressed.
It would be much more interesting if i didnt know when ganking fleet commanders were on in my system area. ;)

Why is it that people think this game is for everyone?A better question would be "Why do some people think this game is only for them?"

I have only "good" (profitable) contacts in my list. I guess I can call them "my EVE friends" though many of them don't have the same feelings towards me...

It should only show someone when they log in if you are mutual friends. This game has far too many effort free ways to gather critical intel. Just like local.

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

In this case, the 'many' are the high sec casuals that do use the watch list for new friends and occasionally the local asshat.

At the end of the day this is a social game and needs the tools to make it stay one. Like local, the watch list will stay until an optimized solution comes up. And to be honest, I don't see this as a priority for CCP.

While it is a bit of 'magic' there is an alternative, you stay logged on AFK to mess with their tracking. It is a game mechanic, it needs to stay because there needs to be something out there to help move the game forward. Without the mechanic of some kind you can run in to a case of blindly waiting for someone to never arrive. While technically you get some 'magic' out of it, it is not like 'disappearing' when you are not logged in is any less 'magical', but a required mechanic.
