So you're the captain of the sneakiest cargo hauler around... None can see you coming to a gate. You're never uncloaked long enough to be locked when warping off. You've found the perfect vessel for ferrying high value, low volume cargo (well, except for interdiction). But...

...You know that moment between requesting docking and actually docking?... its enough to kill you.

Leave Warp -> Docking Permission Re... Locked -> BOOM ... quested

Examine for instance, this sterling "combat" record. *waves from the front of the kill parade*

from 05/10/12 to present:
~75 Transport ship kills in Jita totaling 65 billion ISK in destroyed goods and 41 billion isk in drops (And that's not counting the tech II salvage)... 8 of these kills had nearly empty cargo holds not worth the gank btw... it's shoot first and check cargo later

168 billion lifetime destroyed+looted, which counts a number of non-transport ship vessels in Jita as well.

What's the overhead you ask? 1 CONCORDed Tornado per kill, worth 115 mil (8x 1400mm Artil II w/ RF Fusion Ammo, 4 gryos, 3 tracking computers), {average 27 mil recovered from wreck} and one very safe sensor linking abetter on standby with salvagers waiting to scoop loot at the warp-in/docking point. After 75 Concordukens that's not much more than 6,906,342,850.00 isk in costs... maybe twice that when people exercise their kill rights. So...

41 bil - 14 bil = 27 bil profit, before split (assuming there even is one), just from transport ships

Largest single waste? 6,027,431,778.00 / 6,105,551,023.00 ISK lost (with 41k tripped power circuits, 10k armor plates, and 4k ATBs aboard, all destroyed)
notable runner up: 5,701,098,209.00 / 6,198,209,184.00 ISK lost (mostly from 71 x 21st tier overseer effects aboard)

Largest single drop? 5,935,502,689.00 / 6,054,512,131.00 ISK dropped (with 45-60x full or near-to-full sets of standard and basic learning implants aboard, all surviving destruction)

So, how does one defend themselves from such an attack?
a.) Don't land within targeting range. The sniper typically sits 50-90k off warp-in, in line with Perimeter jump gate, so landing on the other side of the station should place you out of range...
b.) Refit before warping to Jita 4-4. Have at least 20,000 effective hps especially against exp/kin... using up most of your transport ship's slots in the process
c.) Be moving when you dock, their sensor strength is through the roof, but those battleship class guns cant track a cruiser sized object all that well.... of course you're transverse is 0 when coming out of warp and 0'd again when requesting docking
d.) Check local for known gankers before warping to Jita 4-4... of course almost anyone could be doing it
e.) Wait for Retribution to come out and see if bounties and kill rights are enough to put them out of business... let's see, how much does it cost to alt-scum tier 3 battlecruiser pilots who can alpha for 5-10k these days?

Pirates can't operate in high-sec.

It's not illegal, in fact CCP fully endorses the practices of gankers. Concord is simply the bill you have to pay Blink

*snore strawman arguement* CONCORD is the one who classes the act as illegal, not CCP. Roll

...

If you break CCP's rules by say... botting, you get a ban. If your character breaks CONCORDs rules, committing an "illegal" act (i.e. piracy) in empire, your character get a "Criminal" flag. If they are in high sec at that time, your character gets their ship destroyed.

Piracy is an action of the character, not the player.

The same goes for ganking.

Arguing that ganking is legal because CCP has no rule against it (for the player) does not mean that ganking isn't piracy (for the character).

... in any case, this strays from the topic:
Beware, if you fly a transport ship to Jita 4-4, expect that it may be destroyed (and later, looted) in the 2 seconds before you dock.
or:
High sec piracy: if you lock fast and ask questions later, there may be profit.

If you dont wanna die when docking your ship, you could just make a bm at the far end of the station, warp to zero and then dock, you should be fine, however it will probably be to much effort for most people, who then imo deserve what they get!

So what is the sec status cost?
How is it to rat back up?

By the Current mechanic?:

0.5% loss per target for initiating aggression
2.0% loss for ship destruction

Soon to be:
2.5% loss per target for initiating aggression

CCP Masterplan wrote:

Security-status penalties are now ‘front-loaded’, so a criminal/suspect will incur the full penalty when an illegal attack starts, not when (if) the target is destroyed.

... also since,

Players with -2.5 or worse will be attacked in 0.9 systems

So:
number of ganks | sec status
1 5.0
2 4.63
3 4.26
4 3.90
5 3.56
6 3.22
7 2.89
8 2.56
9 2.25
10 1.94
11 1.64
12 1.35
13 1.07
14 0.79
15 0.52
16 0.26
17 0.00
18 -.25
19 -.49
20 -.73
21 -.96
22 -1.19
23 -1.41
24 -1.62
25 -1.83
26 -2.03
27 -2.23
28 -2.43 <--- time to stop
29 -2.62

Ratting back up is just like any other faction grind... about .09% to .38% every ten minutes... so from ~10.15 to 40.5 hours of ratting later you're back up to 0.003 and can gank another 12 people... I'm sure there's some short cuts out there.... like alt scumming

Isn't it because you just jumped to the system and the 30sec(?) session change timer has to run out before you can dock station- aka change session again? Warp to planet first after entering solar system and then dock up.

But anyway, we already are seeing how CCP is dealing with it: No cheap tricks or hand tying mechanics: Crimewatch is the first step and its a good one too.

Suggesting gankers get their sec status up to 5 before ganking again, heh.

Their is a punishment for their crime in game already. Stop crying about a balanced game mechanic OP. Also your examples are stupidly over pimped ships that are most likely piloted by clueless morons. Anyone with a brain would either fly a more inconspicuous fit or at least watch their backs while undocking in such a pinata.

IMHO OP is just warning pilots that them can get instapopped the second(s) they try to enter Jita 4-4

I recommend to use an Orca to deliver stuff to Jita.

The table going up to 5.0 is just for reference. Assuming, by some voodoo, a ganker starts above 0.0, one can subtract positions on the table to see how many ganks it would take to get to -2.5.

Actually, the session change timer is now much less than 30 seconds. Having been reduced from 30 to 20, from 20 to 15, and from 15 to 10 seconds, through various patches (if i remember the progression right). Just dock up at any station and mouse over the little timer-ma-jig in the top left corner above the system name if you want to see for yourself.
