Community leadership is a huge isk scam, and it's about time everyone just wakes up to this fact.

This whole new turn of events is just sad, really.

Maybe it's time to go do some more protesting in Eve.

The firings of Zymurgist and Fallout are a tragedy. It is counter to everything Hilmar and CCP have been saying about promising to stay more in touch with the community. The only possible explanation for firing community leaders while simultaneously promising to redouble your efforts to stay in touch with your community is simple - "performance issues". The only way this makes sense is if the person responsible decided that Zymurgist and Fallout weren't doing their job well enough. You don't lay off community leaders to save money when the economic crunch was created by an angry community unsubscribing. Obviously the players disagrees with CCP's assessment of these two, based on our overwhelming show of support for them.

SO - the burning question on the table - who is stepping up to replace them? Who will take the lead on answering our questions and staying in touch with us? Who will take the lead on moderating the forums?

The first order of business for Zymurgist and Fallout's replacement should be for the new leader(s) to identify themselves, and outline what THEY bring to the table that is an improvement. You don't have to disclose the details of whatever "performance issue" supposedly led to Zymurgist and Fallout's termination, you can keep their secret crack addiction a secret. Whatever. HR stuff is closed door stuff, thats normal.

We the community deserve a strong CCP presence here on the forums, and a strong leader in delivering news and responding to the community, as well as moderating the forums and keeping dialogue on track.

The sooner the new leaders step forward and claim responsiblity for the void left by Zymurgist and Fallout, the better. In the meantime, consider this another major blow to the confidence the community has that CCP is responding to our needs.

Now that the thread has been cleaned up a bit, let me try and address your concerns.

The community team (currently comprising CCP Navigator, CCP Guard, CCP Phantom and yours truly) will continue to function as it did before. I completely agree with you -- the community must receive the news from us in a timely manner, and we must make sure that your voice is heard -- and we will help to maintain this dialogue (and, hopefully, make it even better).

We will provide more details later today, hopefully, but in the meantime I'll do my best to answer any additional questions you might have.

Question.

You are a bunch of guys. When will you hire a chick to your team?

Either hire a new one, or make Navigator dress up as an exotic dancer.

Good question, but unfortunately I just don't know at this point.

Let's just say that there is important work to be done, and I'm confident that this team will be able to keep doing it. As for my job arrangements and other corporate stuff, I'd really rather keep it private.

wtf, why would they fire the community leaders?!? This is the last thing CCP needs from the lack of communication we had.

The next one gotta be DAM good else inb4..

CCP came up with an awesome product, aka Incarna.

The community team failed to communicate this to the players.

lol

(don't forget that the community team is also partly responsible for enabling management to make informed decisions and should act as an early warning system that sounds the alarm way before accounting has to report canceled subs;

relaying information from the devs to the players may be the only visible part of their job but analyzing and evaluating player reactions is imo their most important function;

only people who spend a lot of time interacting with the eve community can make an educated guess at how angry the players really are - eve players love to throw tantrums all the time and to an outsider it is not obvious at all whether the protests are just going to go away on their own or require immediate attention and action.

Read this recent article and among many really good insights you will also find the opinions that "the top brass should get involved only if necessary" and "never speak in absolutes".
That's the type of behavior which backfired badly this summer - late involvement of Zulu (no official comment from Hilmar), marketing speech and extreme vagueness in all statements, ... )

You've fired two fifths of your community team and hired one repalcement. Now you're seeing very_predictable_feedback to offloading some of the most visible and popular devs. I assume there's more to the story than we'll ever know but from the players perspective you've undone so much good work.

Somebody did the sums on what another forum rage event was going to cost versus saving a couple of wages, I'd be looking to fire that person. Also, I'm sure it was Hilmar who ultimately made this overall choice, why is his name not on the devblog? Sending out the meatsheild from PR is weak.

It's not really my place to comment on this. We all miss our colleagues immensely, but the best we can do right now is to carry on our work and try to make it better.

Stepping in also and asking a question.

Why did CCP Pann got fired as well...was it cause due to her quick vanishing after her Daugther got for Emergency in the hospital and stuff.....as i see it firing Pann at this very hard point in her life wasn't a smart move from CCP nor was it very fair firing a woman ahving to deal apparently with such stress RL.

Shame on you CCP and the person which did this decission.

There is no point getting annoyed at CCP spitfire guys. What can anyone really do on the customer front desk at a time like this? Drink tea and stiff upper lip and carry on is the only option.

I do have a request though Spitfire.

Could you please hurl slices of rotten shark at anyone in the headquarters still pushing the NeX concept for Eve Online?

Thanks for the kind words, Jade, much appreciated (although I am more of a coffee person to be honest).

As for the NeX store, I wouldn't call it a priority for the development team at the moment, not by any conceivable margin. With that in mind, I know your feelings about the whole concept and will make sure to pass them along.

If I could go a step further, I'd like to push that the tacky neon blue lights of space-gold in the wallet be shuffled off into it's own easy to ignore tab, away from any part of the wallet that actually matters. Tacky is tacky.

Yeah got to admit I usually prefer coffee myself, but tea to calm down and "carry on" : coffee to wake up, rage! and meet ridiculous client deadlines for me.

Thanks also for passing on my thoughts about the NeX store. I am hoping you guys will get to ceremonially throw the project notes and plans for that unholy obscenity into the harbour and set fire to it before the winter expansion.

But chin up mate. Nobody with any sense blames the rank and file employees of CCP for this fiasco. Solidarity to the actual workforce from me. Its the senior management to blame pure and simple.
