New Player PVP

Where can a new player go to learn more about and participate in PVP?

I've played EVE for about a month now. Lately, I have been wanting to engage in PVP, as the markets and PVE content are boring me. I've enlisted in Faction Warfare, and while this is okay, I have yet to actually kill a single person. It seems I get killed in a matter of seconds, and I have yet to take an opponent down to his armor. In other words, I can't even get through someone's shields.

This is the problem. I don't want to keep purchasing ships to what amounts to a suicide run against any other player. I can't play 24 hours a day, and every time I die, I have to purchase a new ship, equipment, and fly back out to where there may be PVP. This takes time. I don't mind dying and purchasing more equipment/ships if I have a slight chance of winning. It would make things very exciting if I could take someone down to armor or hull.

I've been using a variety of Caldari frigates and the Cormorant destroyer. I've tried a variety of different fittings. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

I would like to just be able to kill one person, that's it.

honestly dude the best advice I can give you is to get a cheap disposable frig and slip over the border to low or null sec and have some fun.

Make sure you have an up to date clone, but I strongly support the idea of buying and fitting 20 cheap frigs and going for it.

Make no mistake you will lose a lot, but one day you will win and will have learned something along the way.

Always end every fight you lose with an eve mail or a chat invitation to the victor with the words 'Good Fight' then ask them for a run down on their tactics, their fighting style and more importantly a critique of your fit and some advice as to how you could have done better. The best words I ever heard when I was starting out were 'you nearly broke my tank'.

Believe it or not you will make friends this way and be invited to join low sec roams and small fleet actions just because you were a nice guy that didn't cry about losing their pixels. Don't get me wrong not everyone will answer and not everyone will be kind but the quality people will be.

Have a read of this to get you going.

http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Incursus_%28Guide%29

it's a little bit out dated as the incursus has been beefed up a bit since this was written but the advice is still true. I am not saying fly an incursus, fly what you want but learn to use it in the way that it's been designed to be used. Make the most use of it's strengths and attempt to balance it's weaknesses.

Alternatively you can ignore the above and join a corp that specialises in newbie training and pvp like those Reds Vs Blues guys you can find in game.

A pvp corp should be supportive and many of them have ship replacement programs so you wont have to keep on spending isk all of the time. I would also recommend that you train for certificates not individual skills. certificates give you a training plan that will maximise the output of your abilities. Train your desired gunnery and defence certificates to basic then standard. I recommend that you do them all to standard then specialise in your favourite field to the improved level and even elite. You can achieve a lot with a low skill point character. 5 to 6 million in sp with some specialisation can make for a superb battlefield ally for any group.

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

Patience...post a fit and how you lost it people will be able to tell ya much more about why it's happening. A frigate fight usually is very fast and if both guys are good even the winner will leave the fight in flames so don't be surprised there.

I'll be writing more over the coming days and weeks.

Also, if you happen to have a Reddit account (we're not strict on the 1 month thing), consider joining Fweddit. We are very newbro friendly. We have a FREE THRASHER program.

The best way to get started with PvP is to join a corp that provides that experience for new players. There are several good ones out there. The Flying Dangerous alliance (FIGL) can get you quickly out in nullsec and fighting successfully in frigates, dessies and cruisers, and guide you into more advanced hulls. If that doesn't sound like your style, Red Federation and Blue Republic are good places to get fast PvP action, although it quickly begins to seem like you are having the same fight over and over again. Eve University also does a good job giving newbros their first taste of blood. Poetic mentioned his corp Fweddit. I'm less familiar with that one but I know that they can handle themselves in a fight.

As a new player it is very challenging, although not impossible, to be successful at solo PvP. You are probably best off to get started in one of these corps roaming in fleets. If solo PvP is what you want to do, get yourself a pile of Merlins or Incurses, fit them out and start trying to kill everything that you see. You will lose a lot, but don't let that discourage you. After each fight think about what happened and why, and if there is something you can do better the next time. Solo PvP is partly skill, both in the in-game and RL sense, and it is partly an elaborate rock, paper, scissors game. Often you win because you have the weapon or tactic that counters what the other guy brought to the fight. Experience can teach you what to expect when going up against a particular hull, and what you need to have in order to win.

Find a corp/alliance that is both noob friendly and has an SRP (ship replacement program). It is common for alliances to reimburse your ship if it's lost in a fleet engagement. Hang in there, don't get discouraged, you'll be podding people in no time.

Highsec is owned by players now. Systems 0.5-1.0 are New Order Territory. All miners and other residents of Highsec must obey The Code. Mining without a permit is dangerous and harmful to the EVE community. See www.MinerBumping.com

Come to R-V-B and fly for either Red or Blue. Lots of fights.

Plenty of idiots to shoot in High Sec and you're far less likely to explode quite so often. Crime Watch should make it even more hysterical. If you burnout on FW, R-v-B, or any of these other fine establishments, we're here to help. Convo if interested.

You are 1 month old, and are taking on players who are many, many times more experienced, both in terms of skill points, ships, fittings, and experience. Your chances of winning 1 vs 1 against these guys is extremely small (as you have been finding out!). Throwing more and more ships at them, yes you will improve and might get lucky one day, but chances are that you'll keep on losing and losing for a very long time.

Best plan is to get a friend, or a few friends. In EVE, teamwork beats anything. 3 newbies with 1 million skill points can quite easily take down an experienced vet with 100 million skill points and a T2 fitted ship. Join an active PVP or FW corp and fly with a couple of buddies, and you will win fights (or even if you lose, you will go down fighting and get some kills).

Best chances of survival in a gang fight say 5 vs 5, is to fly something that is not a juicy target. If you fly a Rifter, Incursus or any destroyer, you will be shot first. But if you fly a Punisher, you will last longer.

Regarding ISK, lowsec PI is a great way to make some passive income for anyone that just wants to pvp. In short, you put down buildings on a planet which will start to extract stuff. From this basic stuff, you can make better stuff that is worth better ISK and smaller to transport. This all happens passively planetside, while you are at work. From time to time you pickup your stuff and sell it on the market.

With less then a week of PI training, you can make a few millions per day with very little effort. The "effort" here is mainly in getting it all set up, and maintaining positive relations with the locals of the system you picked. In order to keep it running you have to spend 10 minutes every 1-2 days to set your cycles. Even if you had a very busy week IRL, you could still be making the same amount of ISK so you can do whatever you want as soon as you have time for active play.

Get good standings with a corp that owns the Customs Office that you wish to use, and you save a lot on import / export taxes too.

Okay.

What are your skills like?

What fit do you use on the ship?

What ships are you fighting?

How are you fighting them aka what tactics are you using?

As for the fly all the way back, relocate your medical clone and keep a stash of ships there. ALWAYS keep a stash, don't jsut buy one, loose it and rebuy a new one. Buy 20 and keep them with your clone, if you loose your ship and pod, update pod, jump in ship and undock.

Also, try to get your Pod out when you can, in empire space it shouldn't be that hard as there are no bubbles. As soon as you see your ship in low armor or structure, start spamming warp on any celestial. Your pod will warp instantly and saves you from the pod killing / clone updating.

And get out of that NPC FW corp and into a Player runned FW corp. They usually have a better community, less alt and farming guys and lots and lots of advice / help.

Also what Aptenodytes said.
And I suggest to at least take a look at RvB.
