Well if its using an i7 for a cpu then the graphics chip built into the processor might handle it on low settings, just don't expect to enter a large fleet fight and still have a playable frame rate. Eve is a rather beautiful game seeing as there isn't any real terain to be rendered the majority of the graphics power can be used making shiny ships and explosions.

Real question is if it has stuff like pixel shader 3.0 support as certain features like that are nesecary to run the game period.

Support for Shader Model 3 is required.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

^^This.

Run "dxdiag" and look for "DirectX Version" on the system tab. If it is 9.0c or higher, you should be good.

You've heard of console emulators for the PC? (PS, SNES, NES, GB, etc)

Now we have PC emulators for the PC: vmware can emulate a whole PC with a shader 3 capable video card for EvE. So if you're interested in running EvE for your laptop, this might be the way to go.

Yea this will make it run but with the added load of the emulation layer you might find that the laptop struggles to render at a playable frame rate even on low settings.

But if you really want to enjoy eve Black Friday is coming up, just find a cheap gaming pc kit online.

Biggest shopping day of the year in the us. Just about everything is marked down far more then ussual that day and a lot of the online retailers will have sales running all week long. Great time to pick up a new graphics card if you live in the us

For more information, check the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Friday_%28shopping%29

For those not in the US, you may be more interested in Cyber Monday, which is the Monday after Black Friday, when online stores typically post massive discounts. I know that I, for one, will be watching those quite closely.

OP, one tip I can give you when playing Eve on a low-end machine: zoom out all the way. By zooming out a bit, the 3D models will be rendered with a lower polygon model. When zoomed out all the way, ships aren't rendered at all. You'll have to fly by overview / tactical instead of graphics though. It's easier to get stuck on something by accident.
