While it's sad 120 people lost their jobs, it was obvious CCP was overextended.

The truth is that Dust could fail, and if it does fail, will it bankrupt CCP? If CCP was developing WoD, Eve, and Dust at the same time, one of the projects nosediving could put the other 2 in serious jeopardy. I'm happy that CCP is now only (mainly) focusing on a single side project.

Actually it is about the attitude of the community on this forum.
People are happy about others losing there jobs.
Sorry but that is pathetic, and sad and you all talk about losing respect for CCP well after some of the posts I have seen today.
It is the community doesn't deserve a thread of respect.

And this is new on this community how? If you really played EVE you should know what to expect out of this place, being shocked at the callousness, trollage, flaming and other shenanigans that are rampant here since DAY 1 you should take it as "usual business".

Does that make it more or less wrong? Not the point, if we , or at least I wanted a moral busybody on a forum I would go post on another kind of forums more appropriate to such endeavors. Your shocked answer only reveals naivete and to be honest, I find it insulting.

OP was just glad that the masses spoke with the only pitchfork at their disposal, WALLETS. I am proud to have been one of the many voices during the protest and to have spread dissent across all kinds of media at my disposal. A campaing I carried to extreme extents and for which I am proud, for many reasons not worth posting here.

People lost Jobs, yes, evil and sad, but you should be appaled is at how these lost Job could have been kept if CCP itself decided to have taken a more IN TOUCH path with their game. Community Reps that got sacked are the direct result of the upper managements FAILURES. No one here is happy to have seen them go. I for one will miss them a lot, yet you pretending to keep or impose a "only you can perceive" sense of propriety here is so misguided to be honest I'm appalled by you.

But all in all, this is eve, HTFU.

Usually when a company lays off workers, the ones to go first are the ones who rocked the boat. Doesn't matter if they are the best in their career field, if they didn't kiss the big boss butt, then they were on the first train leaving the station.

Hope you understand what that means.

The Community had showed great displeasure with NEX, CQ, Incarna, etc and total dislike with CCP's CEO (no need to name). During that time, I'm sure the Liaisons (GM's) were told by the big boss man to do certain things, like start locking threads, don't answer questions, etc which the Liaison Figureheads probably did with vocal reluctance. Then came the big PR Control push (GM and DEV alts posting?) followed by The Infamous Letter. Obviously thinking that everything is ok now after letting some time pass, the big boss man now needs to make some cut backs due to lost revenue. In order to justify his own failed judgement and inept actions while setting an example to other employees, those figureheads are now turned into scapegoats and are included with the reduction of work force.

The last thing to do is get rid of your PR department. Without them, you completely lose all respect from the community.

This just shakes up the already strained relationship between CCP and the Eve Community even more. I'm sorry but this is the wrong move for CCP to do at this point in time. Before a company should lay off or fire a mass amount of employees, they should do some wage reduction and limit workers to 40 hr work weeks, then drop to part time work hrs before actually deleting the work force.

The main problem or reason for the whole original issue still exists. I know I sure as hell didn't vote for our CCP Liaisons to be removed, replaced, temp layed off or fired.

Anyway, I'm tired and I think I'll go ingame and see if there's any protesting being done about this latest piece of CCP manure.

Unfortunately, it is not until it hits their wallets and they see subcribers drop that they start paying attention. Perhaps they believed, wrongly, that the protesters, the people cancelling accounts, the outrage, and the raging forums posts would eventually dissipate and dissapear. That account subscriptions would have remained stable or dip slightly, and then start to grow again. That was not the case.

So you crazy guys shooting at a statue in Jita for weeks, I call you the Occupy CCP guys!

As a subscriber to this game since day one, and a tester since the beta days, Im glad that perhaps this game will continue to thrive and the refocus will bring about new gameplay we can once again be excited about.

Good luck to us all.

So how come the sheeplike actions of hotheads IN game cause such real reactions OUT of game.

Must be a few Eve dicks feeling real proud right now...

Look what "we" did.... woot. Sad

Don't be ridiculous. Hilmar admitted it was mainly his fault in his devblog. This is all the result of what Hilmar (and whoever supported him in the company) did.

The players just behaved rationally in a) expressing their displeasure at Hilmar's direction, and b) voting with their feet, in the only way he would understand (as he himself stated in the leaked email).

You should feel ******* proud that you're playing in a game with other players who aren't such addicted twats that they'll swallow anything developers throw at them (which is what Hilmar expected, as implied in his leaked email).

This is a really good explanation of what has happened.

The Unsub fest because of Nex and I guess to an extent Incarna, pluss the refocus from WoD to EVE. Add to that the lost income from all the unsubs. What was the proud number? Over 2000?

The area hit hardest was in the US where they where working on WoD.

You got what you whished for, basicly.

People losing their jobs is never a good thing and i'm sorry for each one of them. But if CCP had continued on this path it would have been run into the ground in a year or two. CCP would most likeley have been bought up by some big publisher, wich then would be able to dictate to REALLY milk EVE to the fullest potential until it's only a shadow of its former self.

So this is a necessary shrink cure. I find it kind of interesting how naive some of you are. You all expected CCP to get back on the right tracks. What exactly is it you expected them to do? This was a complete and necessary business decision, and it's a tough decision for Hilmar too i can imagine.

It takes alot of balls to do a 180° and talk about it. It took John Smedley (SOE) years to apologize for the NGE, and he never corrected his mistakes. Instead SOE tends to put games on life support and let them vegetate with a minimal dev crew to keep them running.

Thats probably what would have happened to EVE if this cut hadn't been done.

People make mistakes and **** happens. If a super market employee fucks up he might drop some tomatoes on the ground. If a corp CEO fucks up, people can lose their jobs.

This project for CCP MIGHThave worked and no one would have complained. It didn't, so the mistake has to be rectified.
If Hilmar gets it right this time, he will have been the right man for the right decision at the right time. If he fails again, it might be the end of CCP and the EVE as we know it today.

I say let the man do his job. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes right now. Everyone deserves a second chance.

Lets just be happy that EvE is gonna get the development power it deserves again. Faster fixes, more new content for all of us.

Some one help me with the math...

120 people out of 600 no more jobz

OR

600 out of 600 no more jobz.

So... the 120 is not better?

CCP screwed up... decided to be spread too thin, either cut back or lose the company. They cut back.

120 is nothing let me know when ccp cuts 10,000 like some other places.

It is sad that 120 people had to loose their jobs due to the failing of leadership at CCP.
But then again, if CCP had not made that mistake, 120 people would have never had the opportunity to work for them.

HOWEVER AT LEAST, the CCP leadership did was we wish ALL of our world and financial leaders would do these days; which is to recognize majority displeasure, realize the mistake as their own, take ownership of it and then execute the right steps in correct it. Maybe they have not become too Amaricanized after all.

As long as they don't take bonuses this year, they will show what good leadership is all about.
