Heavy Missile Nerf - Bad Idea

So it looks like from the figures I'm seeing, heavy missiles are getting an across-the-board nerf to their damage, maximum range, explosion radius and explosion velocity. Nerfing any of these alone would have been a questionable decision given HM's status as probably the second-most underpowered medium-scale weapons platform, but nerfing all of them reduces heavy missiles to the point of nigh-unusability. There's now literally nothing that heavy missiles can productively achieve that couldn't be done significantly better by another weapons platform.

Given that HAMs are of similarly dubious functionality I've got to say that a significant nerf to heavy missiles was in incredibly poor taste. CCP needs to reconsider this change.

Absolutely. If you take a look at the figures you'll see what I'm talking about.

Completely agree.

You may want to look at this near 300 page threadnaught, though:

First post has the figures. Plan has been revised twice.

Guided missile precision applies to them now. Their fittings have been reduced- Caracals can fit a whole rack of them AND a MWD, AND tank now! With HAMs they do 445 DPS at ~24 kilometers (with my skills)! Slam a painter on instead of a web and you are set.

Caldari are not without a medium sized missile system. Quite the opposite. Furthermore, missile ammo is no longer to be thought of as being similar to how turret ammo works. T1/faction is now considered the "long range" variant. The other two are more specialized in their role and take a hit to range. I'll admit, the range hit is ridiculous seeing as HAMs with javelin missiles will actually be doing kind of similar DPS at just two kilometers short of where T2 HMLs can hit. Still, now we have the situation where all of the medium sized long range weapons are all mostly competitive with eachother.

They all suck now.

Do we know if HAM fittings are just getting a reduction in PG needs, or both PG and CPU?

It looks like from the figures I'm seeing that heavy missiles will still be better than all the other medium sized long range weapons after the nerf. They were even better than all of the other medium sized long range weapons with the original 20% damage nerf, that was scaled back due to tears.

There's still now literally nothing that heavy missiles can productively achieve that couldn't be done signifcantly worse by another medium long range weapons platform.

Let me guess you fly a tengu?

The missile nerf wasn't as bad as I thought it would for ratting in a tengu. For everything else it is and drakes will now completely worthless.

Put goddamn heavy assault launchers on your Drakes. No, you're not going to be doing mediocre DPS at 60-70/whatever kilometers anymore. Instead you'll be doing far better DPS at closer range. With my skills and

7x Heavy Assault Launcher II (Scourge Rage Heavy Assault Missile)

1x Experimental 10mn MWD
1x Large Shield Extender II
2x Adaptive Invulnerability Field
1x Stasis Webifier II
1x Warp Scrambler II

Damage Control II
1x Nanofiber internal structure II
2x Ballistic Control System II

5x Hobgoblin II

This Drake setup does 613 DPS at 14 kilometers. It has 64k EHP. It's not exactly the fastest battlecruiser out there, by any stretch, but still, the Drake isn't dead.

Stop thinking that Caldari cruisers and battlecruisers will be dead after this patch. Guided Missile Precision applies to close range missiles. Heavy Assault launchers are getting a great deal easier to fit. This was an attempt to make HML drakes less utterly ******** compared to everything else.
