If console gaming is dying, and Dust is exclusive to PS3 Console, do we have a problem?

It was PC gaming that was dying last year.

They haven't got a clue.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

The main bulk of that article is saying that dedicated consoles are not doing as well as they used to, which is hardly a surprise to most people and, in the specific case of the Sony Playstation series of consoles, has been carefully considered and taken in to account since before the development of the PS3.

The article also makes note of many things that any respectable forward thinking company has known about, and planned around for at least the last 5 years, that more social interaction, ease of use and game prices are all factors to be looked at carefully. In the case of DUST 514, not only does it have something unique to appeal to people, but it is a free to play micro-transaction based game, which as the author of that article points out is a big draw of things like Farmville etc.

In short, I see no reason for CCP to be in anyway concerned about the future of either consoles themselves, nor of DUST 514 as a product. As they know very well, things change, but that does not mean they fade away.

Aside from media bias in always reporting things to be a catastrophe, console gaming is still far more popular than PC gaming. After Dust breaks, and becomes a big hit, I expect you to come back here and recant your doomsaying.Roll

Apparently you missed Halo 4 coming out. It's awesome. A lot of people are playing... think this is the biggest Halo ever. If console gaming were dying, I don't think Halo 4 would be able to out-do every previous Halo. I play a lot of console games too... it's just a different market. We in EvE are so far removed from the console experience it might be hard to see... DUST was never designed for "us"... it's for the console crowd. DUST has plenty to worry about but the platform ain't it.

I still hope DUST works... just hard to stay excited when I just got H4 in my hands.

Console Gaming isn't dead. A bunch of games just came out. and are STILL coming out. Ac3, Halo 4, Borderlands, Dishonored, and not to mention we are still waiting on black ops 2. They're mostly talking about the WiiU. The new console I knew was going to flop.

If anything, CCP should be worried about the ps4 being released. It's been announced.

PS3 and xbox 360 are reaching the end of their lifecycle, hth

also PC games have to rely on stuff like kickstarter, while franchises like COD and Halo literally have bigger production budgets then blockbuster hollywood movies

People are tired of the crap the developers pull with these console games. Put out a half done product, then sell the other half and call it "Downloadable Content". It's pure greed. It's why I stopped playing consoles. Hell with MMORPGs at least you're actually paying for something (server upkeep patches, new content, etc).

I wonder if we'll see these articles next year when the PS4 and next Xbox hopefully hit stores. Hell, I wonder if we'll see these after the WiiU comes out.
