Mission System Broken?

I have played eve for a while now and though out I've run missions for isk primarily. I'm now running L5 mission in lowsec and it occurred to me that the way the missions are set up in respect to faction missions causing faction standing loss can't be the best way of doing it.

I would imagine ccp spent a lot of time designing those missions and would not like to feel they had wasted their time, but in effect they have under the current system. Hardly anyone I know runs faction missions because it's just not worth it to take that standing loss. Then if you do say F that noise and run em anyway, it's a ridiculous chore to fix that standing.

I do one mission at L5 for gallente against say Amarr and take a fairly large status hit. Then in order to fix that I have to run L1 missions for Amarr because ofc I don't have standing enough to run any higher. I searched this topic before posting and didn't see anything that fit this exact issue. Just seems to me that no one that runs missions would ever mess with faction missions.

I know ccp would rather all of Eve become a shooting gallery, but no matter what they do many ppl in eve are going to prefer to run missions, mine, etc. I do think the current system is probably the most realistic, but it doesn't work so well as a game mechanic.

I got to agree that faction kill missions have become not so useful content. I do not run them mainly because I want to keep high standings. (I can run L4s with all 4 factions, so I could repair standings. But why would I want to lower them in the first place?) I know CCP wants the standing loss to be in there as part of the entire "actions have consequences" thing, but the consequence is content they spent time creating is not getting used very much.

One idea I had is the player could accept lower ISK reward in exchange for the agent blocking standings hits for ship kills. This would do two things: Make existing content more palatable for many players, and reduce an ISK faucet.

I've had that thought too. Maybe you take a pay cut in exchange the agent sends out misinformation so that in the end no one really knows who you are. (as far as keeping it true to lore of eve)

There's a huge amount of money to be had in gathering and selling tags. This is the benefit. Since less people are willing to take the standings hit, tag prices remain high, which makes those missions more valuable, which in turn incentivizes people to run the missions.

Which is to say, there's already an economic balancing decision that work's working as intended.

not everyone is dead set on being welcome in all of hisec. there is good money to be had if you give up on one or two faction standings. what concerns me much more is that when you decide to mission for amarr, you will get minmatar missions which have a very bad resistance profile for lasers, whereas minmatar can always switch to the right damage type and caldari/gallente have basically the same damage types anyway.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I love the missions where I get to shoot amarr.

As for standings, well I'm already at -9.77 with amarr faction and I do like minmatar FW so I'm pretty much outlawed in their space already. I've learned to live without access to half of empire space ok.

Wouldn't say no to boosting the rewards of missions against factions or fiddling (improving) the tag system but I don't think it's needed.

May be right. I might just say F it and do em. I have not had any reason to go into amarr or caldari space in a long time. I just worry I'll be on a long haul and accidentally go though one of their spaces and find myself floating in a pod. There's no way that I know of to avoid a whole race's space.
