I have been playing Eve for about 7 years now. I still learn new things almost daily. Add to that they're constantly adding new things and re-balancing things, you will NEVER learn it all, so don't try.

If you want to get a grasp on basic game mechanics get in touch with Goshee, he runs a voice chat school type of thing like Eve-Uni except without the firewall application process and all that.

Good luck.

I would suggest joining a mining/mission running highsec corp to start with. Find one that has quite a few members in your time zone and as long as you get along with them, you will learn a lot for a while.

After you get a bit of training and experience under your belt, while learning to make some isk, you will probably want to pvp.

One of the best corps I know of for basic nullsec survival and pvp basics (overview, bookmarks, getting around, fleet behavior, etc.) is Open University of Celestial Hardship. Great group of guys that know their stuff. Easy to join (just apply) but do have some rules, but believe me the rules will save you isk. I believe their public chat is Ouch-Uni.

Other than that just know that Eve has the steepest learning curve of all the MMOs and it just takes time to get to where you no longer feel like a noob. I am still a noob for sure. But that is what keeps me here. I don't think I can hit max lvl in this game, there is no ceiling.................

Dre,

If you really want to learn eve.

Train up your frigates first.
Shield or armor skills depending on which ships you fly.
Small guns of your choice
Cloaking, targeting
Navigation.
Rigging

Keep your skill points evened out until you get all of these skills to lvl 4. You will have to burn through some lvl 5 skills to get all your associated skills to 4

Always train the shortest skill first. One you get them all to lvl 4 allot your skill points to accelerate training in ships and weapons, make everything having to do with your frig LVL 5 Then perfect your tank and navigation.

Your first goal should be a rigged T2 frigate with all T2 mods and ammo. A cloak will let you watch the big boys in action without becoming their target.

More importantly while your training all of this. You should be based next door to low sec. Keep an ample supply of the T1 ship of your choice fully meta 3 fitted and ready to go each with some T1 ammo for rats and a small amount of faction ammo. Plan to loose them all, every week.

When you get more isk replace them with T2 fitted ones. And once you stop loosing and have extra isk go ahead and use the T2 ships as well.

This will give you a nice ship to fall back on when you move on to battlecruisers. With the added bonus of having all your surrounding gunnery skills out of the way.
Not to mention a better understanding of PVP than 90% of the eve population.
Keep eve help open, keep your D-Scan open,
Make friends, trust NOONE andLook at every lost frigate as a lesson learned.

Fly safe

P.S. don't be cheap about T1 Riggs ;)

Join a PVP based player corp. and ask lots of questions.
That's all I did, sure for the first few months I still knew jack about most things, but you just keep asking and learning. That never stops in EVE either.
Enjoy your ignorance while you can, once you know everything and have seen everything this game's pretty dull! I would love to go back to the days when I was excited every time I found a new module and didn't know what it did.

What now man??? I did those horribly uninformative training missions...what now? Those things cover like, 2% of the info you need in EvE.

For starters are there any OTHER large scale training corps like EvE University? Respect to what they do but the application process to my real life university was quicker and simpler.

Is there a streamlined, one stop shop site to go to to learn the game? Damage types, ships, glossary of terms, etc??? Seems like there are like 5,000 diff resources and many of them conflict. It shouldn't feel like I'm studying for the friggin LSAT while trying to learn a video game....this ridiculous. I don't mind taking time to learn but holy crap.

(Fully expect SOME exp players to flame for this. I'm used to it. People get exp then act like they've forgotten how it is to be new and get some sort of ego boost from trashing new players. I deal with losers like this IRL all of the time, so it's no big deal).

So yeah...I'm basically just trying to streamline this whole learning process. What are some good Corps to join to learn? Good places to go to learn the VERY basics of the game.

I also notice that this game, unfortunately like many MMOs is very exclusive. The exp players have all of the money, items, influence and pretty much make it impossible for newer players to get in and learn through them. So we pretty much have to figure it out. My SP aren't even in the 7 digits yet....some corps are asking for 50 million SP minimums??? How high does it go?

You basically can't join a decent corp until you have that much SP??? So I basically have to play by myself until then? If so then this'll just be a little side hobby until something else comes out. A friend of mine referred me to this game, but he stopped playing. Not going to pay just to log in, put some skills in queue then log off, which is basically all I do now., and have been doing for the last 2 weeks. If this is how it is up until the millions point in SP then...yeah....not for me.

The problem with all your moaning is that everyone of us "older" players started in exactly the same position as you did and yet we managed..............I'm sure there is a thread in this somewhere. I'm not even that old and compared to what it was like when I started it's much better now. Christ even a Chimpanzee can scan with probes now.

Your overall attitude is a little questionable, but I admire your willingness to look for help. =)

Other players have already provided just about every newbie resource you could ask for, so I won't bother with that.

Instead I'll give you a little bit of advice...

EVE is not like other games, I'm sure you've noticed. Many little things make EVE stand out vs. other mmos, but I won't get into them. The main outcome of the many differences EVE contains is a larger divide between the two schools of thought.

You can see these schools of thought anywhere, and I will use the multiplayer sandbox zombie genre (ie. DayZ or WarZ) to illustrate the two fundamental types of player.

caveat: there are more than two types of player, but I think any player can be loosely grouped under these two:

1. Predator.

This player may be an all-out 'ganker', 'griefer', or just someone who enjoys playing the game. Predators take time to learn all game mechanics relevant to pvp, so that, whether or not they are looking for trouble they are prepared for it.

example: a couple of predators carefully scavenging for supplies, spot another player before being spotted, and take action to agress or avoid.

2. Prey.

This player may be all-out PvE-oriented, or not, may even consider themselves a 'pvper'. However, the Prey does not believe the activities of others in the game should interfere with their own. They essentially want to play the game to themselves (except when they may desire to interact) and resent intrusion upon their 'gamespace'. Prey inevitably have lower knowledge of game mechanics relative to Predators, simply due to this stubborn resentment.

following previous example: Prey running down the street with k-pop blaring in headphones shoots some zombies and begins to rummage around for supplies. Prey gets shot by Predators acting carefully, and rather than learning from the situation objectively, rages in chat, calls hax, leaves the area (or server) and fruitlessly tries again to play without others 'intruding'.

Some people end up insulating themselves so thickly they are essentially playing their own version of the game.

Be the Predator. This game thrives on player interaction. Those who end up insulating themselves from the rest of the gamespace will only ever end up frustrated by others' repeated 'intrusions' on their experience. Embrace unwanted space-violence, prepare for it, take smart actions and learn from the stupid ones, and nobody can call you Prey.

As a former corp mate of Kitty Bear's I'm sure people like me and himself were the ones he was talking about. Hang out in the in-game help channel a lot. It can certainly have off topic times of the day when no ISDs are around to moderate it and it's kinda crowded so you have to read fast but a lot of basic little questions can be answered there.

For anything that is more involved you can try talking to someone like me in a 1 on 1 chat or posting into the new citizens Q & A.

And you hang out in my channel which you can see from my bio (the EVEGate link is screwy, click the parenthesis on the left lol) as a place to hang out with some people and to have easy access to helpful people like myself. Even if I'm not logged in at the time most of the guys in my channel will try to throw out at least SOME advice to what you might ask (or just say "Ask Xerc" lol).

Thanks for the mention Big smile, let me add Petrus Blackshell, Keno Skir, Oraac Ensor, Surfin's PlunderBunny and Cameron Zero too it.

As for OP, CCP didn't make the New Citizen Q&A for a reason. Loads of new players find it and use it, those who don't usually aren't the kind of players that have what it takes to play EVE. EVE is all about what you make of it, so that includes doing some research, ask questions, plan for longer terms.

And as for SP limits on corporations, not all have them. Those that do have them, they are for multiple reasons:

* Prevent brand new spy alts from joining
* Make sure you have enough experience in the game to be self sufficient
* Make sure you are skilled enough to survive in some places (null-sec anomalies vs a 2 day character solo will not end well most of the time).,
* Make sure you can fly certain types of ship when you join (PvP corporations).

But most of all, those SP limits are flexible with most corporations. Show great attitude towards them, talk to them, show them that you are willing to learn stuff and accept criticism and 9/10 times that SP limit won't be the problem anymore.
Most corporations rather have someone who is just under their normal limit but is a great guy to fly with and willing to learn then a multi-million SP veteran who is a deuce and just a PITA to have around.

Silly noob. You are REQUIRED to make numerous attempts at going to lowsec alone so you can get ganked in gatecamps and pad the killboards of the leet PVPers who like to pretend killing everything that moves at a gate is PVP.

And then, you are REQUIRED to convince yourself that you like being ganked, lest you get labeled a "carebear" and told to go back to WoW; fearing those labels more than death itself because what some lame gatecamper thinks is supposed to be the center of your life.

So, go out there and get killed. It's a sandbox, remember?

If your making threads like this then EVE is not for you. I wish I didn't know what I know about EVE. The fun is learning what you don't know. How you do that is what makes this a sandbox game.
