Hi all,

anyone has a good tutorial or video how to quickly hunt down cosmic anomalies? I sometimes need 10 minutes (feels like hours!) to get an anomaly to 100%... I work as described in the video below, but currently I use 5 drones:

I didnt watch the full youtube vid, but I noticed he uses the menu's to readjust the scanrange of probes.

Using SHIFT and ALT+SHIFT while dragging the probe's bubble you can adjust scanrange of all probes at once, and reposition and scale them to your needs. Massive timesaver.

Also, what ship and skills are you using?
Astrometric aquisition, rangefinding & pinpointing help out nicely. Goes even better in a dedicated ship that has a bonus to scan-probes.

There's also Sister's Core Scan Probes that give better results, along with implants that can help you with your skills.

Cosmic anomalies?

You don't need any probes, just click scan on your onboard scanner, wait 10 seconds, receive bacon. Range is 64 AU.

Scanning is one of those wonderful things in eve where your out-of-game skills, such as mouse precision as well as experience and knowledge of how things work, is much more important than the rank of your scanning skills.

My own scanning skills are pretty average, being Astrometrics IV, Pinpointing III, Rangefinding III and Acquisition II, and I use a cov-ops ship with rank IV. But I have scanned signatures down to 100% when someone with better skills was still below 50%, because I know how the system works and I've had A LOT of practice at it. I'm also good but not great with mouse speed, which helps.

He is trying to say signatures, but people these days seem to be clueless about the difference.

Ok to begin with use a covert Op ship as they have huge scanning bonuses

Get a sisters core probe launcher or a sisters expanded launcher if u wanna scan ship too [pvp]

Use sisters core scan probes.

The thing with scanning is you do need good skills to do it quickly. lvl4 minimum in :

Astrometric Acquisition
Astrometric pinpointing
Astrometric rangefinding

With the above skills at lvl4 you can scan any sig to 100% in less than 60 seconds for the hardest of sigs and down to 20 ish seconds for the easier sigs.

Ive not watched the video but I can guess what it is..

The thing is when you have good scanning skills and using the correct equipment you do not have to start at 32au and scan downwards in steps..

I scan with 5 8AU probes on every planet and If I get a hit it takes 2 further scans to get to 100% without fail

So use 5 probes arranged properly,

make them 8AU and scan each planet, you will get hits..

got a hit? Rescan at 4AU

Finally down to 2AU youll have 100%

If you are scanning nullsec, certain sites like 10/10 and the fleet staging points are more difficult and may requite 7 probes - same config as 5 probes but 1 above and 1 beneath.

Liner Xiandra's suggestions about Shift+clicking and Alt+clicking probes and their spheres are major time savers.

What TriadSte said about starting at 8 au's is a good time saver if the signatures are dense. Also with Pinpointing at lvl 4 you can go down from 8 AU to 2 AU immediately. With Pinpointing at 5 and a good implant you can consistently go from 8 Au to 1 AU. This is a huge time saver. Also, assuming you're using a cross or a square formation of 4 probes, a 5th probe (or more) in the center set to 1 power of two lower will let you go down an extra increment each time provided the signature shows up inside the smaller sphere's radius on the previous scan. Managing the extra probe(s), however, is often-times more fuss than it's worth.

TriadSte's advice on skills to level 4 is also a good idea; it takes about a month starting from scratch. It is by no means necessary though, as most sigs will resolve with sub-par skills as long as you're flying a dedicated scanning ship.

After you've perfected your scanning technique, you might try more advanced methods of finding the signature you want:
Signature Strength (some signatures are more difficult to scan than others, this technique can let you differentiate them after only one scan... allowing you to ignore unwanted signatures without wasting time on them)
Complete Signature Strength List (useful for sorting out signatures once you know their signature strength)

Also, just to set you straight on the terminology:
Cosmic Anomaly (does not require probes)

Cosmic Signatures (requires probes):
DED Complex (shows up in the "Unknown" group)
Unrated Complex (shows up in the "Unknown" group)
Wormholes (shows up in the "Unknown" group)

Anomalies can be found instantly by hitting the on board scanner with no probes out. Just saying.
