Where to go with my training

Hey all, first thread here on the forums so go easy on me P .

My character is relatively new and I've only got about 3.6 million SP with about 1/3 of that in gunnery. What I need to ask though is for advice on where i should go with my skill training. I'm a Caldari toon but have very little skills pertaining to Caldari other than spaceship command (go figure) and can fly Caldari battlecruisers. I got into PvP within my first week of playing (I never got to L2 missions) and feel that it has kind of messed up any race- dedicated training.

Early on I cross trained into all of the other races, (mostly Minmitar) so now my (few) skillpoints are all over the board. I've got far more SP in mechanics and gunnery than engineering and missiles (both of the latter being important to Caldari ships). Currently I can fly Minmitar battlecruisers as well with medium projectile being at IV too. I really would like to now what you guys think, should I get myself on track for training a single race, or should I spread myself over the core skills some more before picking a specific race? Most of my gunnery skills are in Hybrid turrets, so Gallente are definitely an option being they primarily armour tank and use blasters. On the other hand, several doctrines that I have been asked to follow focus a lot on Amarr ships and lasers (which I have very little training in).

What do you all think I should do? Should I focus more on shield related and missile skills or should I ditch Caldari and go straight for Gallente and/or Amarr? The Amarr lineup of T2 cruisers and T1 Battleships are very appealing to me if that counts for anything. My overall long term goal is to specialize in Covert Ops, so I'd also like to know what each race does better than others in that regard.

Thanks for dealing with my noobiness, your feedback would really help me Smile

Just a side note, I remapped myself for Perception/Willpower to speed up any ship and weapon skill training, along with getting the basic lineup of implants.

I dont know what skills to tell you to train as I do not know what you have now or what ship and fittings you eventually want to use. The way I went about training was to make sure I could equip a full T2 fit before I trained for T2 ships. You do not want to be on someones killmail in a T2 cruiser fit with T1 modules.

'tis all preferential. Do you want to wait months and months before being of any real use? Do you want to get bare minimum usefulness, then train for 2 years-3years for perfection? Do you just want to listen to people ramble on for 10+ posts?

IMO: Specialize and finish a set of skills, then start up another set. Branching out wastes a lot of time. i know this firsthand.

PvP - Choose a race, get level IV in frig/cruiser/BS/BC, Get T1 fittings trained, Evasive Maneuvering IV minimum, Then strive for T2 guns, Level IV gunnery support skills, Spaceship command IV or V, remap int/mem, train all supports up while you learn to play with that one race. change races down the road.

PvE - herp derp. decide a race, ask around what's best for isk... bla bla bla... yo'll get a llot of opinions. train for the fittings and ships.

The "Playing other games" option - figure out what ship you want. usually something that will take a long time to train for. Spend a half a year on each skill type. 6 months gunnery, 6 months SSC. remap int/mem. 3 months engineering, 3 months electronics, 3 months mechanic, 1 month science, 2 months navigation. then play the game.

lol.

I run 7+ accounts most of the time and none of my accounts run under the same skill plan. I spend my free time at work organizing my alts and planning the next year to perfection. sometimes i even plan logistics of ships. The key here is to think for yourself. discover for yourself.

Thanks for the prompt feedback guys Smile . For some odd reason I couldn't get eveboard to work for me What? guess I'll have to try it again some other time. From what you have said and thinking of where I want to go it looks like I'll be training Amarr for now, then once I feel I am competent with them I will move back to Caldari/Minmitar. I am only 1 day away from Hull upgrades 5 so that will allow me to fit a full T2 tank.

if your dealing with corp/alliance fleet doctrines, as in they have ship fits they require you to fly and will replace if you loose them, I would work on getting those out of the way. you don't want to be the guy who gets left behind during a roam because he can't fly the ship. some of the better fleet fits actually require good fitting skills to make proper use of and those fitting skills will apply to any ship you fly. you should also look into the 'other' support skills, remote repair, the various flavors of electronic warfare - tracking disruptors especially, and the drone skills for repair and ewar as well.

Sounds good I'll put time into that for sure.
