But the really vicious thing is how they laid everybody off at the end of the last Star Wars film. Like instantly. People had been working 80-hour weeks for months to meet the release deadline. When they were done, it was like, 12:00 - We're finished! High fives and knuckle bumps! 12:05 - Rapidly deployment team of managers goes around simulaneously firing pretty much the entire production staff. I guess Geo. couldn't afford to pay the guys one more day of pay. Ugh And a lot of these people had been with the company through all three of the prequel films. Not very nice, IMO. Anyway, we'll see what Disney does now.

I know it's harsh and ugly, but a company doesn't keep people around to be nice. Any well run business would get rid of people who are no longer needed. This is not evil, it is common sense.

It would of course have been better to let them know that as soon as this could be foreseen (which is the moment they are hired, since LucasFiml knew that they would make a trilogy), so that they have time to prepare for the day they are done. Telling them the last day is merely an evidence for poor organization/communication within the company.

Just exactly how many people that work there do you know ?

I've lived in San Fran for 17 years and know LOTS of folks who work for LucasFilm and ILM. Hang out with them in the neighborhood bar even.

All I can say is you have no idea of what you speak.

Welp, the job WAS over. Duh.

No, I don't know what I speak of. Those are just my impressions from working as a vendor to ILM and Lucasarts, visiting the campuses, and working with the production guys and the management.
Maybe you've never gotten a pink slip, mate. It's not fun for anybody, no matter how the employer does it. But some employers try to make it a little financially and/or psychologically easier on the employees.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Lucasfilm also owns the rights to Labyrinth. If Disney remake that, I'm going to cut them.

I got tons of pink slips (as did all in SF during th Dot Boom) and great convos with former emps of ILM. You are just weirdly DOWN.

Nobody laid off from them ever indicated to me that they should have been retained because they were special.

Actually I kind of support this.

Given that the films are likely set after the events of Jedi, Ford, Hamill (if he was thinner) and Fisher could easily all fit into a series of films based on the Legacy of the Force books.

I could see that working and given that Disney also own the Marvel film studio, I'd give them the benefit of the doubt on all things Star Wars.

But as I have said previously, Disney, you touch Labyrinth, I will cut you.

They would surely make Hoggle more aesthetically pleasing to look at, but that's another thread altogether.

I feel another 'trilogy' should focus on other characters and some kind of obscure events in an entirely new setting, just to give dimension to the SW universe. The SW universe is interesting (in that it has an SF setting but no science needed to justify anything at all), but not really widely developed outside of the novels and all that.
