Spacepron, nuff said, it's about time someone released some more BSG, the remake really kicked it in the backside.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Just 3 more days! Big smile

I really like that they use the old style models. I mean the centurions could be improved from the original, and they are, but I'm really digging the old ship designs here. I always liked the three seat cylon raiders from the first series. HUD shots on the vipers looks really good too, nothing like we had in the 70's lol. This looks like even more detail than BSG v2. It'd be great if this builds momentum, gets more production attention.

Saw the original trailer like a year ago, then they announced that they weren't picking it up for series. Was a bummer. Hopefully it has the same quality as BSG did.

Sci-f..... sY-fY P ..er is going to air this next year Big smile I guess this is more like a two hour movie/pilot broken up into ~15 minute segments. That's why I hope it gains momentum, continues production. I mean if it's good. I like the plot much better than that other spin-off (BSG: the complicated teenage girls of Caprica and the robots they luvd). It'll also be offered on home video.

Anyway, for those too busy to hunt the site down, it'll start this Friday on Machinima Prime and run for another four weeks.

Jeebies, the production values of this look dreadful.

I might go as far as to say the original pilot had better production values.

Also, I don't remember asking for this and certainly didn't ask for that caprica crap.

This just appears to be making attempts to cash in on something, kinda like they did with the revamp last decade. Difference is they used the original premise as a launching point into something new and unique; like having Starbucks sell more coffee.

AND

I fuckin' hate shaky cam.

Every-time I see shaky cam, it takes me right out of the scene, because I KNOW there is a camera operator TRYING to make it look like a documentary, by purposefully shaking the camera around like a moron.

Hate it more than I hate inappropriate lens flares - and combining to two: URGH, it makes me wanna put my right foot through my plasma.

BSG v2 had "shaky cam". I have no problem with it if it's not overdone. Heck, ST:O had shaky cam scenes, with chair bouncing too lol. EVE has ocean current cams. Hard to find any cam that likes to stay put.

SHAKY-CAM IS BAD!

Give me a real and logical reason for its existence!

To help you out, I have a short list of moments where having the camera shake makes sense in a sci-fi:

1: A spaceship gets hit and internally we see the command bridge shake - "trying to make the audience feel more connected to the scene".

And a short list of moments where it doesn't make sense in a sci-fi:

1: Character walking along a corridor reading something.
2: Character brushing their teeth.
3: Character combing their hair.
4: Character putting on flight gear, after brushing teeth and combing hair.
5: Character looking at photographs of lost co-pilots, smiling affectionately.
6: Character speaking with a sub-ordinate about ship setups.
7: Character downing a drink at a bar, and whistling a tune.
8: Character taking drink to a piano and trying to play the tune on the keyboard.
9: Character waking up in the morning to find there is a piano in the bed with them.
10: Character filling out paperwork concerning the abduction of a piano.
11: Character walking down a corridor reading something, in shame.
12: Character confessing the abduction of the piano, and a tuba.
13: Character etching the shape of a tuba and a piano on a detention cell wall, whistling.

ad infinitum.

All of these moments, can and should be done with a dolly, tripod, Steadicam or even crane - none of them would add anything by being fake camera/documentary footage, primarily because anyone with half a brain KNOWS that there is a camera operator faking/accentuating camera movement and focus pulling to give it a 'realistic' look, or the 'documentary' look. All of this is ridiculous because any camera operator that was that sloppy with the camera would be kicked in the face on the first day. FACT.

Such a shame that composition of a scene has been downgraded to infantile levels of believability in the 21st century.

This. Made me laugh.

I can finally stop cutting myself now that more BSG is being made. \o/

I'm conflicted. On one hand, I'm always in favor of some more BSG as i love that entire universe. On the other hand, I wish people would just let things die. Not everything needs a sequel, prequel, or any other type of quel. That's just me though. Plus, I'm saying this without ever having watched an episode obviously so for all I know, it could turn out to be amazing. Only time will tell, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up...

Let it die? Thats the problem with today. Too much fast consumption. BSG was one of the best space pilots to ever be made. The remake was great but short. I don't get this rush to the finish line. There was some much potential that was left on the table.

I hope this has some success. I would rather watch this than some rehash Star Wars drivel. Shows like Firefly and BSG were fantastic and original. But I guess I am the vocal minority that has no real voice. RIP TV.

....the problem with today is too much fast consumption and not the rehashing of old IPs? What? Listen, I think BSG was fantastic. I loved it. It was the perfect length for me.. it's just I would rather see new, different properties instead of old ones. I'm sorry that offends you.

And, for the record, I'm not saying prequels/sequels/expansions to established universes are automatically bad. Again, it's just personal taste that I would rather see something new.

Anyway, now that it's been out a couple days, so those that didn't see it probably don't give a frack about spoilers..
First thing I noticed was the lighting. Seemed more like a dream scene, over-bright sampling. Initially I thought it was annoying, but as the video progressed it made the look and feel ... well ... chrome like heh. But it was pretty heavy on post-processing, yet it still worked.

The CG looked pretty good, lots of stuff on scene. I mean the original BSG v2 the flight decks were material, tangible models, and not much clutter with little to no digital modeling, sparse. Clearly this was heavily CG, 3D models cluttering much of the scene, a good deal of realism though. Space scenes looked good too, well detailed.

Can't say much about the characters as of yet, justifiably, as it's only 30 minutes into it. But how it was playing out, I recall thinking of starship troopers, or a flavor of it. After all, it's 10 years into the war, newcomers coming in while veterans looking for a way out, while others duty bound. But not just talking about the shower scene, but in the seemingly never-ending war and with such a situation that produces unique personalities over time. With an hour left, I suppose the perspective of the viewer will now focus more on the main characters as they move forward into the mission, or salvaging of the circumstances. So they are two days out and no jump capability. I do recall seeing Adama on some planet in one of the early trailers, so off to the planet they go I suspect.

Sound was good
Music was good - mix of old and new
Dialog worked, though still early

I saw one really odd scene though. How long does it take to get two helmets? What, ten seconds? Lets see you put on a pair of real boots that quick let alone two guys quick change into flight suits in a small cockpit ...under fire lol. yeah uh-huh. But maybe they just over shortened it and cut out the stumbling, tripping and fresh floor dropped faeces as bolts of energy whiz by.

Good start.
