Hello Eve veterans, I'm hoping for some help... which I know is a strange concept to many residents of Eve... but I thought I would give it a go as I know there are some helpful players.

So my main toon is now 3 months old, I have developed mosly industrial skills, and have built up a small corp of 20 players mostly mining and refining which is turning over a couple of billion ISK a week and making a few hundred ISK in profit.

So now I have a problem where I am now starting to generate more ISK than I actually use, which is nice, but I'm now plexed for two months after only 2 weeks and to be quite honest I'm getting a bit bored with mining and want to start killing things.

I can fly a raven, use cruise missiles and can use a fair number of t2 mods if I have to.

Faction Warfare has gotten my attention, so I am now trying to work out where to start with this one.

I understand about the mechanics of plexing, but what about ships? What should I be preparing for? What level of skills should I be aiming for?

Just how do I get started!

Any help would be great

Ahh thank you, I was having a hard time finding useful things on the internet for FW, or at least, up to date ones.

The first thing you need to understand is that PVP is competely different to any PVE. While in PVE you have a very well controlled environment, means you usually know what to expect etc. in PVP a lot of unexpected things can happen due to the fact that other players are involved and that they are usually inpretictable. Therefore I advice you, start small, start cheap, be prepared to loose ship (and pod if you are not fast enough with the warp out button) frequently until you have learned to handle the unexpected.

A cruise raven won't really be useful in PVP, particularly in FW. Think smaller, faster and cheaper. This is a situation where bigger doesn't really mean better.

Really, most of the FW fleets you will see are Battlecruiser down. Most plex ships are frigates or cruisers, at this point mostly PVP fit. Train for T2 racial small and medium weapons, max those skills. Battlecruiser 5 is ALWAYS a good skill. If you can fly/fit a tier 3 battlecruiser (naga, talos, tornado, or oracle) you will be in great shape.

Stock pile a bunch of your chosen ships. They WILL die, faster than you think, particularly as you are learning the PVP mechanics and the warzone. Eventually you will learn what gates are regularly camped, where the gangs usually roam, and who lives where, and adjust your behavior accordingly. Until then, you will spend a lot of time in a pod.

Speaking of, there is almost NEVER a reason to lose a pod in lowsec (remote sebo station camps are the exception, and you can avoid those if you are smart). If your ship is dying, start spamming "warp" to any celestial (the sun, a planet, belt, moon, etc..). This should insta warp your pod out after your ship goes "pop," saving your implants.

Good luck! I have been in and out of FW my whole Eve career, and it's still the most fun I've had playing this game!

After the Dec 4th patch, T1 cruisers will be extremely over powered. My advice would be to spend the next month figuring out which faction to join, where you will base, and your logistics chain. If you are active miners, I would get into T1 ship manufacturing as well. Maybe take the next month for your corp to purchase and research all the T1 frigs->battle cruiser BPOs. Start a 1 month training plan to be able to fly those T1 cruisers with as close to max skills as you can get.

Once the patch hits, join FW with your corp for a week at a time and pew-pew in T1 cruisers. This should be a safe way to enjoy FW (ie join FW for a week or two to fight, drop for a week or two to mine, etc) since war decs are completely broken and nobody should be willing to dec you when you leave FW. See https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=156437&find=unread for information about war decs.
