Level 4 help solo gila

Hey, I am coming up to level 4 missions and was wondering if Gila was still an option to run level 4's? if so i have been looking at PVE fits for it and there seems to be two major changes which one if any out of the two would do Caldari Navy level 4s?

Was just wondering if any of those two fits would work with Level 4 Missions?

I used similar fits (when I was somewhat active) in Gallente space (with different passive resists ofcourse, and with Wardens and Heavy Missile Launchers) with great succes.

I actually like the Gila better than a Dominix, for instance. Cruiser hull makes it a far more agile mission boat and the damage projection from the Drones is phenomenal.

Maybe fit an ECCM in the mids if you're fighting a lot of Guristas?

I had go with HAMsters or HML instead of frigate mods.

The latter fit is the more up to date. Before DDAs were released, SDAs were the only way to increase drone damage and almost mandatory on PvE boats. Since then, there's really not much reason to use them as they give a lower bonus than DDAs. This means you have to sacrifice SPRs, but you can add another purger.

Invulns on that fit are a little dicey due to cap use, but you'll obviously want to change those to mission-specific anyhow. Two kinetic hardeners should get you through for Guristas missions. If you'd like, upgrading to CN/DG hardeners will help you run cap stable and free up some CPU to upgrade to at least rapid light launchers instead of lights. I'd say this is a worthwhile investment.

Before you get into a Gila, you better read the Feedback thread on the new AI in the new Features Forums.
Get onto Duality next time it is up and run some missions with drone boats.

The light-missile fit is close to one I've had success with in various endeavors. A good way to think about fitting out the Gila is this: it's basically a Drake, except with the roles of drones and missiles reversed. It's even got the same number of mid-slots and low-slots. (Granted, it's somewhat smaller and faster and more agile). Common fits will use Rapid Light Missile launchers to take down frigates while medium, heavy, or sentry drones are on the field attacking heavier ships.

Skip the Gila get a Raven or something that doesn't rely on drones for L4s.

Drone aggro is shaky enough on some mission as is; now just imagine what its going to be like when the NPC realize your drones are doing all the damage and switch their DPS to them?

That's basically the AI "upgrade" that's coming in the winter xpac, they WILL target swap to your drones.

Used to use a Gila, I ended up ditching all but one arbalest assault missile launcher just to draw aggro. The missiles on their own did too little DPS. After that it's all up to how you want to setup your tank/gank fit, my fit is out of date since it was before they introduced the new drone damage mods.

Hey guys thanks for giving me some insite into the gila I have looked at the Raven but it doesnt seem to be very cap stable and likes to suck it dry in less than 2 mins and the builds ive seen for it doesnt seem to be that good or is there just people hating on the raven?

Capacitor stability doesn't play to the Raven's strengths; it's best suited to a "burst tank" technique, where you fit a large or extra-large active shield booster (and a boost amplifier if necessary) and only activate it when your shields have dropped significantly. A common saying among mission runners is that the best way to improve your tank is to get better at wiping hostile DPS off grid, so the Raven's generally geared around absorbing lots of damage for brief periods of time, and then recovering capacitor for the next wave.

People may disparage the Raven, but it gets a lot of use because it's relatively cheap for a mission-capable battleship, and its weapons and defenses can be "tuned" to the enemies you're likely to face in a mission.

In this game, the bigger the ship, the harder it is to make it cap stable.

I fly Raven, Navy Scorp and Navy Raven for l4 missions, none of my fits are cap stable. If you want to make them cap stable, you can, just buy faction and deadspace mods. The cap stable fits are on Battleclinic, just go and copy them.

There's debate between Semiconductor Memory Cells and Capacitor Charge Circuits for rigs, and I've seen people go either way. But I, for one, would absolutely not put faction hardeners and boost amps alongside a sub-Tech-II shield hardener booster. If you need to do faction fitting, I'd recommend starting with the shield booster itself, and leaving hardeners at Tech II, but that's for when you're more comfortable in missions and better able to gauge the risks. I'd advise that you train up for a full Tech II tank, and then think about faction fitting.

I started out with a fit very similar to that. If you are going to spend money on faction modules the first you should invest in is a X-large booster. You will not have great DPS until you get T2 weapon systems. So your tank will have to work much harder until you get your DPS up.

The biggest applied DPS increase I saw with my Raven was swapping rigs out to 2 rigor and 1 flare. It makes your missiles hit so much harder the lost cap regen for the tank is a non issue. you really need to get your skills up to full T2 to run level 4 missions efficiently no matter what your fit. Even when fitting faction mods, the extra little bonuses from the higher skills really add up. Get all your T2 tanking skills, then all you missile support skills to 4. Then you will see why a raven is one of the most popular mission boats. Also don't forget about weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades in the gunnery tree. They affect launchers as well, and make fitting much much easier.

If you do intent to try out a Raven using a burst tank the CCC would be much better for restoring cap between burst cycles than just having a large cap capacity to begin with with which once it goes too low your gonna have a bad time.
