It's a pretty minor thing, but I think it'd be lovely if things were labelled better on the map. The colors look way too alike, some systems are hard to click on, things like that. However, I'd really like it if the sov mapmode included borders and a nice big name over it, by default.

I'm thinking something like this, but in game : http://kalralahr.servfire.net/gsmap-large-20070301.jpg

Obviously a lot different to improve readability, but I'd leave that up to someone else. I'd love looking at that every week or so.

Indeed, but it isn't in game. Would be nice for quick reference.

Set it as your in-game browser's homepage.

The in game map can actually be modified quite easily to show Sov influence in number of ways. The only thing I noticed we can't do, is remove NPC Sov from the map.

Tiles can be made visible in 2D or 3D mode only, and I believe there was some setting to make them appear below the 3D mode. They can be turned off. Region lines can be shown, and all the host of other settings. Really, there are a lot. I did make quite a nice looking Sov map awhile back when I was playing with it.

An in-game 3D map showing 0.0 sov was revealed as a feature of Incarna at one time, but who knows if it will ever happen.

Yup. Flatten the map, turn on tiles and Sovereignty > All Factions, and you're pretty much there. Won't display alliance names, but will show sov holder when you mouse over a system. You can also turn on and off blinking tiles for recent sov changes.
And yes, you can turn on tiles in 3D mode, but it's pretty useless since things don't line up unless you're looking straight down on it, at which point you might as well go into 2D mode.

For new folks, having a clearer map that makes it very obvious as to which alliance controls which systems. I would also like to see the region sovereignty be displayed on the map - it would be make it much clearer for new folks to see who is the dominant power in certain areas.

I see you are part of the CFC, so what do you need to look at a SOV map for? For you, all you need to know is it is all blue. That's the CFC motto, if it can shoot us we better blue it.

Didn't even know about the tiles, wow that makes things a million times better. Thanks!

The fact that you didn't find them immediately is also another problem. The map has been relatively untouched by CCP's UI revamp, and I think that'd it be a great help for all players (the newer ones in paticular) if a simpler and more streamlined map was put in place.
