While you're right, you HAVE to admit that local is a pretty dumb mechanic that AFAIK does not exist in any other game. Immediately being notified with information about people jumping into the same area as you, including hostiles? No game has that. Not even the most carebearish of MMOs have that. It is, quite simply, absolutely ludicrous on too many levels to even list them all without running out of characters.

Whatever else they do with this game, removing local is a very good idea. Not without adding a few things, like improving usability of D-scan and stuff like that. But it has to go at some point. Currently local just makes so many mechanics in the game a total joke that it's not even funny.

No, that's not what i said. Read it again.

And how would this "improved d-scan" of yours work?

What I've seen of nerfs to hisec has been minor. Which changes have happened in hisec which weren't minor?

It's been a gradual process of minor nerfs, usually at the urging of people in 0.0. By the time the last nerf to mission loot happened there was hardly a whimper here on the forums about it, because we're all so used to it by now. While patches like Dominion focus entirely on pleasing people in 0.0 and throwing ISK faucets at them. The only true nerf i can recall happening to 0.0 is the Jump Bridge change of last year or two.

And i have to say, it appears CCP is moving in the right direction with upcoming hisec content, but the general attitude on the forums remains hostile and even insane towards hisec and those who live there. Even now they're dreaming up new nerfs for hisec to suggest to CCP.

nullsec nerfs:
- The Dominion sov system
- Supercaps (multiple times)
- Unprobable ships
- Anoms
- Dysprosium
- Neodymium
- Technetium
- Drone poo
- Jumpbridges
- Various complexes
- The initial hisec incursions

Some of these are huge and game-defining, some of them are less so, but a majority of these make more of an impact on the day to day life than anything which has happened in hisec. I'm sure there are tons more nerfs which I've forgotten, but whatevs.

Yes, EVE Online: Trammel lite is definitely "the right direction".

Which'll never happen since CCP are hell-bent on making nullsec worthless to live in, and they must protect hisec from bored PVPers as a result, so they're treating the symptom instead of the cause by trammelizing hisec more and more instead of fixing nullsec.

And drive everyone to high-sec except when on roams? Local is a game mechanic needed to get some people out of high sec. Get rid of local, make it all as easy to kill people as wormhole.... then everywhere will be as empty as wormholes.

Get rid of local, and the whines about everyone being in high sec will increase 20-fold as the number of people in high sec sky rockets.

Oh... then we will have to nerf high sec... to drive poeple out of the game. That way EVE's 300K player base drops to 30K hard core PVPers sitting on titans hoping to out manouver each other with a bigger fleet than the other knows about. wouldn't that be bliss?

I'm pretty certain the number won't skyrocket, since most people I know have hisec alts to start with, because it makes sense to use. But nullsec'll be emptier than it is today, this is a certainty.
