Year to year subs up, peak subs down.

Our subscriber numbers are higher today than they were a year ago. Unlike many other MMO's on the market, we have continued to grow year-on-year since launch in 2003. However, over the past two months, our subscribers have gone down from their peak this summer. We attribute this to our own mistakes and poor communications with our players. We are correcting that now.

Funny, when I said that people pulled out a bunch of charts they made and then told me I didn't know how to read them. I am just dying to hear what people are saying about the same thing when CCP dictates it.

Eve is dying. This is proof. [sic]

This just confirms what the server population ticker shows at any time during the @23 hour server up time. We still do not have anything that shows the true subscription numbers and how many of those are actually logging in.

When we talk about subs going up or down, are we taking into account inactive subs or just unsubscribed accounts?

Well I don't plan on paying CCP a single thing for years now and for years to come, not expecting them to change anytime soon. Which is why I sold a char for 18 bill and used it to buy enough GTC's to keep my main account going for almost next 2 years. :)

Now I only log in to pvp, no more grinding and spending hours on a broken game just to pay for accounts. Another reason why I won't touch any of there products like DUST514 etc with a 10 foot barge pole. The idea of them making money off me makes me cringe inside.

CCP have always been words and never any action, I wished they would prove me wrong for ages now, still waiting. Roll

If you don't think CCP made money on you buying GTCs/Plexes, you're truly stupid, even more so if you don't think they made money on the character sale.

Yes CCP make more money with PLEX as their RL currency value is usually a couple of dollars over the standard subscription rate.

Nex (Cash Shop) / Aurum - removing sand from the sandbox since Incarna. Currently the only use for aurum is to buy virtual items in the in-game store, but Cockerill expects to expand its uses in the future.

that was PCU - PCU numbers drop earlier than subscription numbers for obvious reasons.

You guys need to learn how to read.....I said and I quote "The idea of them making money off me makes me cringe inside."

I didn't say that they did not make money from GTC's or character sales, I also did not say that my selling characters and buying GTC's with isk doesn't make them money, it does. Either way they will not be getting any subs from me and I personally myself will not needing to put any money in there hands from now on with my accounts payed off for a very long time with ISK. :)

Plus that was the last point my post was trying to get across lol. I will believe CCP are changing there approach towards EVE when I see it.

Nuff sed.

You are one of the people that called for CCP relocate assets, and I was one of the people against it. And I was chastised heavily for being against it.

This is an eve is dying/not dying thread, which is what i was being smug about. Keep the political stuff in the political thread.

Players online != subscription numbers.

Yes - over time I would guess there' a strong correlation, but there hasn't been enough time to say with any confidence that this is the case.

Likewise, as a side effect of the additional resources required to run some of the Incarna content, a portion of 'multi-boxers' was prevented from doing so; it stand to reason that less would be online all things being equal.

The CSM did not call for people to be fired. The CSM did not call for people in community to slander their favorite games developer publicly and loudly over an optional vanity cash shop.

CCP are absolutely not free from blame here, but we, as members of the community, need to support CCP in this time of uncertainty. Anything less than this is selfish, disgusting and petulant infantile behavior and I will not associate myself with it.

I intend to use what little power I have to promote this game moreso than I ever have before.

Umm i believe the CSM chairman did indeed call for people in community to slander their favourite games developer publicly and loudly.

And for the record, i do feel for the developers that have lost their jobs, and the families that they support, but the blame doesnt go to the community here, this lays purely on the mismanagement of the company, and their overambitious endevours.

And a sudden plunge in the sullen swell. Ten fathoms deep on the road to hell.

How is eve dieing... according to their charts and their words... its growing year to year, but the fluctuation during the year is becoming less pronounced.
The games population is steadily increasing... there was just a bumb in the road this year that slowed down the normal increase.

I wish people would quit trying to kill this game, and try to work with CCP to fix it and make it better.
Flame posting isnt construction... its not "cool" ... its just being a **** because you have issues with how small yours is.

Everyone just chill out and enjoy the game.

Ah.... No. Read between the lines.
* subs are up overall from last year. Good. However,
* subs have been bleeding off "over the last two months" (the gains are being lost, and could still be trending downwards)
which combined with
* 20% layoffs, and
* an internal restructuring and a refocusing on Eve, (WoD activity reduced, more resources being allocated to Eve)
* and a public apology,
means that CCP feels the need to take significant actions to stop the (continuing?) loss of Eve subs.

Whether the action is needed because
* Eve's sub losses from the riots were horrific, (i.e. the financials were based on a smooth, increasing sub count,)
* Incarna didn't deliver the expected new subs, (again throwing the financial numbers off)
* the downward trend in subs over the last two months shows no sign of leveling out and may undo a year's gain in subs, (which would be really, really scary)
* or because CCP is over-extended financially and is simply making the Eve Cash Cow even shinier in order to aggressively increase subs and PLEX sales. (Meaning the initial projected slow/gradual/conservative rate of increase isn't good enough anymore.)
is up for debate.

the month incarna came out less people played then 2 weeks before it....
when tyrannis came out more people played that week then in eves history (iirc)
this years alliance tournament did not break the PCU record which is did that last few years

people quit, a lot of people quit, a lot of people kept paying but stopped playing

then there was the bad publicity from the major gaming news sites, which hurts game credibility

lastly, when eve is "dieing" it will be either a slow death ( which the incarna expansion was bringing on )
or a swift death ( like golden ammo in nex store, which was also leaked in on forum)

players banded together, and showed CCP that bad ideas will end in loss of income.

Subs are falling because more and more people are coming into Nullsec to find it a wasteland full of AFK cloakers whenever you dare to get your system level up.

Result? They go run incursions until that gets boring, Then they just leave.

Then on top of that there was the hyper mess with recent decisions.
