I feel a disturbance in the force, as if millions of nerds cried in pain at once.

Yes, I do ralize the irony in that.

Make it idiot-proof and someone will make a better idiot.

Meh, "Star Wars" will forever always be the three original movies. It is done and over with. It had a good run back when it came out. All the other crap is just milking of overeager fans.

So, that was Lucasfilm until 2005. With Lucas out and the Pixar story team cranking out new ideas, I guess that spells disaster for all future Star Wars product. Yeah right.

To me at least it will never be "Star Wars" again. It might turn out to be some interesting sci fi story or space opera. But not "Star Wars" other than using the same name. Episode IV, V and VI had a very unique atmosphere and characters that all later movies totally failed to capture, and I doubt it can ever be captured again. Just like I think Prometheus totally failed to capture what made Alien such a good movie. It had its time, and I am glad to have enjoyed it.

I do not consider it a loss to not see more Star Wars movies as such though, but I am rather sad to see they try and try again to push some more life into the corpse to, in my opinion, just milk the fans of more money. In addition the original story was really wrapped up, the good guy saved the day, and the evil emperor was gone and a big celebration was had.

I'm not a SW Pusher myself. At all.

But saying the largest merchandising profit generating (last year even) franchise that inspires the kind of passionate talk of the past 2 days is a 'corpse' is just way off the mark.

The corpse is the year 1977.

If otherwise, thank goodness some of these guys have great ideas, as Christopher Nolan sure pushed life into the Corpse of Batman...that old tired 1930's property, ya know.

Oh dear lord, please do not throw that idea out there.

I would dread to see CN direct a star wars movie. JJ I might be able to get on board with, but not CN - he is not suited to the material whatsoever.

And he can't direct action.

I think all fingers would end up pointing at Joss Whedon tbh, but I'm not entirely sure that would work either. It's one of the things that sounds right but, probably isn't.

I think Joss is good for having action mixed with multiple characters in a progressive plot that has multiple arcs, like Buffy was like, with every episode having 5 minutes of action after 50 minutes of every character saying their trademark lines to one another.

Not sure star wars is that, as the characters have always been part of a bigger picture and there have been less characters.

Besides, it looks like after avengers II he's gonna be working on a tv series for the avengers initiative, so it's a moot point.

Let CN carry on delivering what he does, and let someone else deal with the responsibility of star wars, like QT.

I didn't.

YOU did.

Sigh.

Besides, it looks like Brad Bird and Dan Lindelof. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/59411

Apologies. Need more coffee in my whiskey.

Thanks for link...interesting choice(s). Not sure about Damon Lindelof, think his writing ends up falling under its own weight. He's good for teevee, because he can sustain multiple plot-lines over long periods of time - like a soap opera. I am not sure if his style is suitable or akin to a sci-fi movie over 120 minutes. Case in point: Prometheus.

Star Wars is a classical story with classic character motifs; with the rogue wanderer, the knight, the wizard/hermit teacher, the princess in peril, the bumbling servants. If I were to equate that a Zombie flick, it would contain; the scientist/logical character, the protector/militant character, the female warrior/humanitarian character, and lots of red shirts.

If Damon Lindelof is writing this, I hope he is not the only writer and others rein his propensity to waste time in areas that do not need it and increase the areas which do: the story and the characters. Also that he doesn't confuse a film that would appeal to kids, with a film which is designed for kids. Episode 4 versus Episode 1.

Brad Bird as director is a great choice, he understands animation so the cgi will have more consideration to context versus necessity. So this (I hope) will mean that he won't fill the screen with tons of cgi, unless in makes sense in the context to which it is shown, and not just for the sake of it. The work he did on The Incredibles was great and is one of favourite animated movies.

Episode 7 can't possibly be worse than episode 2... can it ?
If it can, we'll just ignore it.
If it's better, well, yay ?

The only way episode 2 could have been worse is if Uwe Boll had directed it.

As far as I'm concerned Star Wars consists of 3 films, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi, the prequels to the sequels were just really bad attempts to cash in. I think the same about the Matrix, the sequels don't exist in my mind.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Oh boy ain't that the truth. I have the largest love/hate divide with myself over Prometheus than any movie I can remember. I'm still not sure how I feel about it exactly. (Saw 'Alien' at age 13 on release - have BluRay 34 yrs later).

Fracking marvelous.... thank you, George, for selling out -- not like you didn't own half of Hollywood anyway...

So...

No longer... "Master Windoo"....

Behold... "Master Winnie the Pooh"... with extra Ewoks... who will never, ever die when those nasty Stormtroopers have a weapon malfunction while roaming around the planet "100 Acre Wood"....

What I don't get is how the Marvel films are being used as a defence? None of them are great, hell none of them are better than a fantasical version of a Steven Seagal movie; great for action and not much else.

I think they are a good example of what can be done with the source material of Marvel's comic-book universe.

So, I guess peeps are taking a leap and saying the source material of Star Wars is good enough that Disney should have enough savvy to not screw it up - especially since they just spent siro $4 bill as investment.

Star Wars is pretty hard to mess up, and am still not sure how George managed to do it with the prequels.

Uwe Boll... *suddenly feels the need to wash her mouth*...bah.

Anyways... after thinking about it... maybe it can work? Ep. 1-3 already been Disney movies more or less... well, excluding any emotion, that is.

They should let J.J. Abrams make SW7. There will be a time machine that will teleport Han Solo into SW0 where he'll shoot Connor J. Skywalker in a cantina and SW1,2,3 will never happen. If you watched Star Trek or Fringe you'll know what I mean.

Don't know, but if he has any off-spring, I bet they can't believe their own father turned against them and took away their inheritance of the SWT.

"Mother ****** did whaaaaaat?"

Maybe that's just me, I think I'd rather inherit Lucasfilm and all its subsidiaries than get a slice of 4 bill - you?

I recall no Mouse Ear-ed presence in "The Avengers". Or "Thor". Or "Hulk". Or last years disney "The Muppets".

I don't think the pessimism here is deserved.
