Damn rebellious former colonists P, still they missed out on being able to take part in the Commonwealth Games, unlike all the other former colonists that didn't gain their independence through rebellion but through the more civilised process of negotiation.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Actually all sites and anomalies are spawned every 1, 3, 6 or 12 hours. Randomizes.

So go away.

i fail to see how having maintenance at the start of the european working day helps european players.

by the time you get home from work, most of the roid belts have been stripped of lucrative ores anyway. it's actially the gmt +5~ish players that get the benefit, not europe.

OP fails to realize that downtime at the moment consistently occurs when there are the least people online in the daily cycle.

There are many reasons for the cycle time being what it is. One of which is that it's consistent for our server guys. Having it scheduled to go off every 30 hours would mean their schedules would get waaaay out of whack.

And working on a rotating schedule is very bad for a persons health.

To be totally fair this is a bit of a straw argument as you schedule downtime for any time during the day and it will soon become the least busy time.

OP is still wrong, but this isnt why.

Since CCP is working towards "no DT" I think this will become a redundant thread - except on expansion day since that will be euro time most likely.

No, it's a pretty relevant piece of the puzzle.

People would not change continents just because the DT changed, and as it is, the parts of the world that have downtime in the middle of their peak hours are also the parts of the world that has the fewest players.

DT is fine how it is. Whats wrong is spawning mechanics after a restart.

I don't see a majority here anywhere... does anyone else see it? Perhaps I'm missing something.

FYI, I'm Australian. Downtime here starts at 9pm, 2100 hours for those of you used to 24 hour time. It's actually quite convenient - gives me a reason to have a shower and some dinner. That's not to say I do nothing else with the rest of my day, but it doesn't really matter anyway.

You put downtime at 19:00 and I can guarantee you'll see a drop of players just before and just after it. I agree it would "naturally" be a quiet time of the day anyway, but any time of the day would be quiet if you put downtime in it.

Although "no downtime" is a long term goal, in the mean time it would be nice to have spawns not tied to the daily cycle. A better solution than changing downtime would be to divorce the re-spawn mechanics from the downtime cycle. I know anomalies and sigs already spawn any time. I think the public belts are the only thing still tied to downtime. (What else?) So CCP, how about making belts regenerate continuously, not just at downtime? If you are going to get rid of downtime its something you need to do in any case.
