(yes I realise the irony of the above "added" dialogue" by Mr Lucas.)

Yes, cause Disney is in the habit of ruining brands..

I think this will be only a positive for the Star Wars Universe.

Lucas already crapped the bed with the prequels so why the unwarranted rage?

It's gonna be worse.

Star Wars with dancing Ewoks singing Phil Collins songs....

Still better than Jar Jar.

I forsee a not-too-distant future where Jar Jar will be considered a highlight...

Seems like Lucas has been bored with Star Wars for over a decade, so a cash-out isn't all that surprising.

This gives Disney permission to actually hire real film directors for the new films. Witness the hiring of Sam Mendes (American Beauty) for the new Bond "Skyfall" a first for that franchise of a 'name director'.

The new movies will be different. They are not being made for those of us who had our MINDS BLOWN between the ages of 5 and 15 in 1977 (I was 12). They are for the newer and upcoming generations, but should hopefully be enjoyable for us (I actually really really liked most of "Revenge of the Sith").

My fingers are crossed, and I'll await judgement until I at least hear the plot of the first new outing.

Yup. They have done just an absolutely unwatchable job with their Marvel Comics properties. Roll

Iron Man?
Avengers?

They were great as far as marvel movies go. Too bad they don't have the right to the XMEN movies/characters too

Edit - Wait - I think you missed my sarcasm. You should have read the rest of my post.

Also, Kathleen Kennedy who is taking over the reigns from Lucas has a long history with Spielberg as well, both good (ET) and bad (Jurrasic Park III).

The only real 'if' on her resume is Producing Shayamalan's "The Last Airbender" Shocked

lol. I even guessed the 'surprise ending' of his "The Village" during the trailer. It only got worse.

50/50, actually. Lucas has mentioned several times that he's wanted to move on to non-Star Wars projects for years, but the studios just aren't interested in his work unless it's Star Wars-related.

Yeah. THX-1138 is so experimental it's almost hard to believe George made it. Want more of that but highly unlikely at this point.

I actually ran into him in the men's room at Farralon http://www.farallonrestaurant.com/ in San Fran in 2000, about a year after The Phantom Menace came out. It was just me and him (washing his hands) in there. I quietly asked "Are you who I think you are ?" He chuckled and kept washing saying "Yeah, I probably am." I wished him, "Well, better luck on the next 2 films." and quietly closed the stall door. He finished up and just wordlessly left.

The next day I phoned an old High School friend who had moved to the bay area and told him up to the point where I had walked in the restroom. My friend paused for a few seconds and finally asked "Did you scold him?"

lol. Yes indeed I did. Too bad it didn't work!
