Personal storage item hangar for POS

Asset management in our WH POS is a real pain, it would solve a lot of our problems if we have some sort of personal hangar or storage space available for our personal owned ships/assets.

In the CSM minutes of May/June 2012 p. 68 Two Step came up with this during their discussion about the new POS system and CCP Greyscale said “We would like to code that in ASAP, even for the current system.” CCP was considering adding a new item hangar with personal storage for each pilot.

Is this new item hangar still in the works? Will we get it this winter expansion?

As Two Step mentioned during the CSM meeting, many of us have problems with asset security and recruitment in wormholes. Personally I think this “personal item hangar” should’ve been available for a long time already because I think the corporation role and division management in combination with having a POS as a homebase just doesn’t work. Besides, if the corporation roles and divisions are used for personal asset security it’s impossible to have a good solution for corporation owned assets.

It’s a huge amount of work to get a basic level of security for each pilots assets which could be solved by a very simple solution on CCP’s end.

I like the idea and have wanted improved management tools for a long time (assets, corporation/alliance titles/roles, etc). However, with your proposal I see an issue I wish didn't exist. How will unanchoring be handled? Let me explain:

Your corp members are using the Corp Hangar Array at your POS as normal. Let's suppose that it's time to move out for whatever reason (corp collapse, invasion/threat, new corp direction, etc). Now as it stands a corp hangar array cannot be unanchored while items are still inside it. What if a pilot goes inactive, his items are indefinitely stuck in the CHA. Should it be allowed to be unanchored? So the question is, how will CCP approach this if they decided to use your idea? Would the Corp be able to unanchor it even if items are still in personal item bays of CHA hangars, destroying the items inside?

I see one solution, albeit one where "trust" has to come in. Maybe a mechanic that says "the CEO or X person with roles may take items from personal hangars in CHAs so that CHAs may be unanchored." This way the player's items are preserved and may be returned to them at a later time. This is only an option for the players if they have proven themselves to trust each other, naturally. However, it's the only solution I have thought up off the top of my head. OP or other EVE'ers, any ideas to help this guy's idea become a reality?

Thanks for your reply,

First and foremost, this isn't my idea. It is something a CCP dev mentioned he wanted to code in asap during the CSM meeting.

Secondly, i don't think the problems you mentioned are problems caused by this new type of hanger. These problems exist already in my corporation where we have personal assets of our members spread across all hangars and structures over the different POSes. The CHA's can also be off-lined and unanchored with "personal" assets in them. Apart from the inactive member problem, the problems you mentioned already exist, and for inactive members it's easy solved with the CEO having rights to access someone's hangar with a weeks countdown or something, or make it a votable decision.

On a sidenote, we use the different corp devisions for different "tiers" of access. While this leaves us with as many " tiers" of trust as there are corp divisions. it leaves us no room to safely store some corporation owned assets. and for ships its only possible to have 2 "tiers" of access as far as i know. There should be a way to put a password on private owned ships in the SMA in POSes.

I'm only interested in when the new module will be released, because the CCP Dev mentioned 5 months ago he wanted it to be coded in ASAP.

Let CCP work out the details you mentioned, they've learned for that and they are getting paid to do so.

ps. I don't think we will see this anytime soon...
