Up to 20% of staff being effected, WOD team being reduced significantly.

Discuss.

Why post?

There is a sticky thread on the topic at the top of this very same forum.

First off, I hope this thread can retain a reasonable amount of civility. These cuts mean that real people are losing their jobs, and this is not something to joke about or make light of.

I'm sure it's s a very sad day at CCP, and I feel bad for that.

Of course, one's immediate reaction upon reading the article is that (1) CCP is in financial trouble and that (2) WOD is dead, but the last paragraph diligently attempts to mitigate those worries.

Nevertheless, the worries remain.

Selfishly, as an EVE player, I'm happy to hear about the re-commitment to core EVE development (for obvious reasons).

But I do seriously feel bad for those many people losing their jobs today.

At least the staff isn't cutting themselves. That'd be sad.

This is no suprise - go read their accounts. Redundancies, jettisoning WOD etc. All predicted months ago.
I think they're too late to save Eve at this point though. Why? Because they have comitted the cardinal sin of business: alienated their customers one by one. People quit when they get bored of a game and might be enticed back later on, but the people who quit because you pissed them off, usually don't.

Finally.

CCP feel free to create new games but do it intelligently and not at the backs of EVE subscribers because that can end badly.

Well knowing that CQ and Incarna are test beds for WOD.
And seeing responses on the forums in regards to performance.
And rumors about multiple players in the same zone having issues.

Well then yes the statements do make sense.
Crank out DUST and everything associated with it in EVE.
Continue to work in Incarna (WOD), and get the bugs out of the game engine.
Then build WOD based on it.

IT appears that the technology CCP thought was ready for WOD is in fact not ready.
Sadly that means you have to let people go as you can't have them spend a year or two building a game just to find out it isn't going to work and start over from scratch.

Well SONY and the big companies can, but they have money to throw around just to see what comes out of it.
Not CCP.

All that being said, it is sad but not all too surprising.
Nice to see CCP kept as many as they could and transferred them to DUST.

Of course it is all pure speculation on my part.

I feel for those 20% of the staff losing their positions. Will those at the top take a 20% pay cut? I doubt it.

Welp...

As a person I feel bad for those getting cut.
As an eve player I'm glad focus will be returning where it belongs

as an American I'm somewhat disappointed with the statement that workers in Atlanta will feel the biggest cuts while CCP plans on "redeploying" personnel to this location for launch.

yeah, that kind of rubs me wrong...

Am I reading correctly that American CCP employees will be the bulk of the cuts and that they will be replaced by an icelandic team in Atlanta?

I'm trying to be understanding here, but WTF?

White Wolf is in Atlanta, White Wolf is WOD, WOD is being partially mothballed, therefore staff get cut at what was White Wolf. Bit of a bum deal for White Wolf...

I can understand the need to refocus on eve, however I don't see the reason to fire 20% of your staff working on WOD. There already there there not hurting anybody by staying there. If anything shift them over to eve development. I just hate to see people loose there jobs when it's not necessary. Unless there is something bigger going on financially. That being said I'm very excited to see what kind of goodies you come up with in the forthcoming expansion's I hope it's MINDBLOWING or i'll probably rage quit eve again for a month Lol

I get that part, what troubles me is the "redeployment" bit.
that says to me that cut jobs in Atlanta (at lease a portion of them) will be filled by other company personnel, from outside Atlanta

if you transfer devs from one project to another you often don't need certain parts of project management, etc.

Tedium and difficulty are not the same thing, if you don't realize this then STFU about game design.
