Sorry, I'm not so techy but I think I have a leak.

In the Cntrl Alt Del thing under Processes then Mem Usage it starts off around 500 meg and goes up about 4K per second to 780 meg and even higher.

That's a leak isn't it?

I'm on XP.

Got a hunch it might be related to the grid not loading upon jump issue that I am still having for months as well as many others (but just a hunch as i'm clueless)

This doesn't necessarily indicate a leak, just there is constant allocation of memory for something...

I leak would be where the memory never goes down again.

That said, there's definately a problem with eve, because after a few hours running, 1 client of mine takes up almost 2Gb or memory. That can't be right! :)

This is a form of Ram/Vram leak, and CCP has been made aware of it for quite some time....yet somehow are unable to open up "task manager" to note 'starting' ram usage and 'ending' ram usage. As for me, on my lappy a single client would start out using about 600m....then it would climb to occasionally 2gigs...no reason for that on bare minimal graphics.

My new shiney desktop, with things on medium/high, clients start about 900m...then climb to 2gigs before i reboot Eve.

Here is a thread in which CCP replies cluelessly. (i say that b/c how hard can it be to check Task Manager?) (and yes CCP, i'm calling you out)

my clients have started drifting up to 1.4gb of ram useage. had to actually upgrade my ram to 16gb from 8gb to deal with running my 5 clients

OMG when can i get a pic here

This. Should not be needed. I know your all about making older tech obsolete, (and melting PC's) but this is getting a bit dumb. CCP can you please find a way to reduce the ram footprint, please?

Sorry to necro a thread, but I too have experienced poor memory performance with the EVE client lately. We're talking 3 GB of RAM being used for EVE alone. It seems to happen every time I jump or undock, during the "Entering Space" segment of loading. I think it's tied to graphics, or rather my pretty bad integrated Intel HD Graphics card. Any help, CCP?

Please send a bugreport through F12 when you are experiencing this. Feel free to add my name to the title of the bugreport. so that I find it faster. 3GB sounds like a bit too much, except if you are playing with extreme graphic settings in the middle of a fleet fight.

At the moment I know of one small memory leak, but this one is only triggered by opening the CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+M monitor (and only sometimes). It seems like the memory+performance tracking itself has a small memory leak - it happens quite often on my machine, but it is quite tricky to track down and fix. This one "might" explain the problem in the first post of this thread.

I did a system restore and the problem seems better now, though I did roll back my graphics to much lower than what they were before. While I still have to do the dance of alt-tabbing out of game everytime I undock or jump through a stargate (during the "Entering Space" loading stage), this has already been documented by CCP in relation to Intel HD Graphics integrated graphics cards. Just a minor inconvenience compared to not being able to play the game, which is the state I was it prior to system restore Big smile

So the problem arose again after a few days. At first thinking it might just be a virus consuming a lot of RAM, I ran both avast! and Malwarebytes on their highest-level scans. After about ten hours of scanning they found a few minor viruses (mostly adware) and removed them. I then turned my graphics settings back down to "Optimize for Memory" and ran EVE. It has continued to hang up, and trust me when I say being 7km off a gate in lowsec in a T1 frig while EVE is "Not Responding" is a pretty frustrating thing.

In order to eliminate variables I tried other games that also are pretty high-end in terms of graphics. I ran Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and it worked fine at highest graphics settings. Concluding that it must be EVE alone which is causing my computer to run slowly, I uninstalled then re-installed the client. When I launch from the EVE Launcher it hangs up at 29.7% while "Validating Client", and about an hour later spat an exception at me. I didn't know what to make of the exception, though it did give me a long list of memory locations and the like. Both EVE and the EVE launcher are just completely bugging out. I don't want to have to quit my favorite game over this.

In spite of the exception, if I click "Run EVE" it actually works fine, though I am concerned that the Launcher is still bugged.

This memory leak is still here.

No reason for our clients to be slowly eating more and more memory and never giving it back until we restart said clients.

It is not an issue with only certain hardware, as you have plainly been told. The build that was on Duality (this past weekend) seemed worse for this than the current TQ, which although seemingly slightly better than it has been in the past, is still not good.

It should not be hard for you Dev's to pay attention, as we are, to how much system resources the client is using throughout a session.

Stop giving us the "give us a bug report, or we don't know anything...ever" line and do what we pay you to. Or am i wrong?

I know when my client is about to crash with a memory problem - when this happens, I get "ghost" stargates and stations or structures.

I have approximately 30seconds to 1 minute before the client then crashes with a "Debug Error!" message box.

I don't know if I will have time to submit a bug report when this issue happens before the client crashes.

Is it worth having a go, or could I potentially fire up LogServer quickly and see if I can catch any exceptions?

I'm having the issue again and lost my Talos in a mission :(

CCP, what's going on? Why does the loading of graphics cause the client to lock up, even when set on lowest settings?

I just submitted a bug report and hope to get some clarity as quickly as possible; I want to get back to playing!

The graphics issue has been commented on before. It seems like when you see the ghost startgates/starbases, its a problem loading the graphics resources for the texture maps. This is either the cause or effect, I'm not sure if they know what. Either low memory resources causes the textures to not be able to load, which is a symptom of a leak (resource handle leak or memory leak) elsewhere, or is the cause - the leak is in the graphics code itself, which is causing and exarerbating the problem.

That said, I only get this after extended play, and also happens most often when I'm moving large distances between systems (is this a place to look devs? Moving between systems a lot = lots of jumps?).

CCP Habakuk, in addition to filing a bug report I also made a more in-depth post here.
