Are the various ambient pieces going to be sorted further into Amarr/Caldari/Gallente/Minmatar subsets as well? Unless this is already the case and I'm just really bad at picking them out.

Just a thought, but whatever happened to Aura? Always thought it would be a lot more pleasant (and more fitting) for Aura to announce that "Your shields are low", "You're being warp scrambled" or even "You are being targeted" etc.

Of course that isn't feasible in the near future, but is it something you sound guys have considered?

Fully configurable won't happen atm.

:(

can you at least put these on a special slider ? they are much more important than other notifications

Yea, a change of scenery is always good. deleting posts and changing names just to create confusion is what I actually do ;)
Naa. CCP Audio obviously didn't fit the overall guidelines of user DEVELOPER names on this forum, so I had to change it into something more respact-my-authoritaaaa like.

That part is thought of. but for various reasons it can't be done unfortunately, it would be an awesome and easy way to solve some of this, but this is a very heavy subject at the office at the moment, so maybe it will happen, but not anytime soon.

Which ones you say? the ambience of the ship or the ambience of system and so on?
Just gotta get the names right, before I start explaining something completely different .

Yes, as mentioned earlier, a lot of mixing will happen for this expansion and that part of the job will continue onto the next, which will for sure solve some of the "problem" about which warnings are audible when and importance of such warnings. That will take care of some of it, but not special slider style.

ah. could you add a warning sound for cloak failure. like decloaked by an object?

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Team Klang: Is there any interest in remastering the in-game soundtrack, or creating a new soundtrack altogether? I think remastering the current one would be nice since it sort of falls into the same philosophy as the rest of EVE's development: Basically turning the old into something new.

I emailed Jón Hallur not too long ago about this. He said that CCP doesn't have any plans for updating the soundtrack. I think that's rather unfortunate. What?

is the whole "fully configurable" thing on the "things we will do one day" list ?

this is one of the main things that really limit my gameplay in eve. i dont care about my warp drive being active, i care much more about it being disabled. i also want to be able to chose a specific sound for it. depending on my playstyle

Oh! Speaking of Aura, what made you decide to change Aura from a dead-pan humor A.I with a on your ship to a A.I with a human british speaking lady? That's the same voice actress right? Don't get me wrong I like her al lot, but the dead-pan one pre-tutorial revamp last year was nice.....very nice..... she sounded more like a A.I with the mono computerized-esque voice. I miss that.

I was speaking of the various system ambient pieces, I've already noticed that the ships all differ by faction (I'm particularly fond of the Caldari one). Or does system ambient music only change with security status?

That, fits into some of the other things mentioned, I'll have a look into this.

I understand what you are saying, I'll see what is possible and try to work on this when going over the "failing" modules used. There is a lot on that "things we might do" list. trust me, it's filling my entire backwall here with ideas and why's and why not.

Right now, it's only the music that fits systems, sec status and so on. There are some changes to famous places and so on, but not caldari or amarr space specific.

That is before my time. you know, I'm only one day old, according to the forum profile here ;)

what would be some reasons against fully configurable warnings ?

i fully understand time as a limiting factor, but i don#t really see a real reason against doing it one day (luckily there is a team currently working on combat text, but i still want my warnings :D)

sorry for being so annoying about this, it's really important for me ...

Right. Are there any plans on making the music faction specific at any point in the future? This would in my opinion be a great way to help establish the 'feel' of each faction.

I agree with this, it would be pretty cool to have faction space specific ambient music. Maybe one day even extending this to pirate space.

What about different rat noises? They are all the same radio chatter. Until you get to drones.
Perhaps different radio effect depending on Sensor type. Grav being scratchy. Radar is echoy that kind of idea.

Heyy CCP WhiteNoiseTrash! Glad to finally see CCP inject some awesome into eve's sound!

just wondering as a sound guy myself if the audio in eve is mostly samples or mostly synthesis?

and would love to know if you can dispel the popular myth in eve that having sound on adds lag to the game?
(personally i believe those people who think so just have terrible computers and cant tell client lag from network lag!)

ohh and the one thing thats always annoyed me to do with sound in eve is when jumping through a titan with 200 other guys... the multiple voice channels for each sound effect per ship build up to insane levels in headphones, to the point i have to pretty much rip my headphones off so i dont go deaf.

thanks for listening to all of us in this thread and keep up the good work bro!

We are carefully going over all the amounts of voices put into the game, previously there wasn't time to go over all these things, for several reasons. That should limit and get rid of the stacking problem you would experience during such a titan jump.

The sound processing in EVE is pretty hefty, but the sounds themselves causing the lag is slightly overkill. Sounds are attached to events and other processes within the game, so a triggered sound, which seems to cause a lag may be attached to hundreds of other systems doings something at that moment, like warping.

We are trying to implement more, not synthesis, into the game, but rather more granular synthesis, with rather big grains. To have complete control but expand on the variation processes. But a main problem here is that each of such require either pre-calculations or a seperate voice, limiting the amount of sounds available and we are working quite hard on separating your sounds from "other players" to get around this.

It's being worked on.

There should be, depends on which sounds on the drones you are referring to. There have been some changes, but I can tell you as much as basically what all of you mention here, about "more" and "umphf" - more unique sounds and so on, is in the pipeline, but to get it right and make it work without taking the CPU beyond the Eden nebula requires a bit of work.
