Eve online in french?

Salaries (at least in IT) are ~25% lower than Toronto or Vancouver while the income tax... 3 times bigger :)
For example the lowest salaries are taxed like this:
- In Ontario: 5.05% on the first $39,020 of taxable income
- In BC: 5.06% on the first $37,013 of taxable income
- In Quebec: 16% on the first $40,100

Ahah these guys are more french than us ffs ! We have 3 hours of english per week at the end of highschool (but it's really crappy, don't forget they do live in Canada, an english-speaking country, maybe they don't need as much teachings as others ?), but the income taxes here are around 20% for low salary, so it's still higher in France :D But they're making progress yay

EvE Online is a Sandbox.

A Sanbox is made of interactions.

Translating EvE ensure an acces to those who aren't able to communicate in English, or I would say, to those unable to interact with other players (shooting at one's face is not the only form of interaction you can have, even when it comes to be hostile).

The conclusion is that the more EvE is translated, the more it becomes open to non-english speakers that are believing that the world is speaking their own language. Trust me, I would truly believe the opposite but a huge majority of my encounters with german or russians have confirmed this point.

I'm french, and I am opposed to an EvE in French. Regarding to the "damages" (understand this word with caution and out of any form of discrimination) already caused by german and russian translations. My English is not perfect, but it's enough to make alliances or deals with other players. Why would it be different for the others ?


This said, I can however strongly recommend to translate a part of the tutoriel, as understanding basic complex gameplay mechanisms can be difficult for a non-native english.

in reference to Quebecois vs Parisian french; there is even grammatical difference which causes more issues for translators, especially in technical contexts, such as one would find in EVE Online.

I'm not disagreeing though; it would be really nice if there was a formal French translation too.
Perhaps if enough people show an interest, then it might happen ?


French language has exactly the same differences with other Official French speaking countries than English/American or Portuguese/Brazilian Spanish/Spanish south America countries etc.

One does always understand the other but one is far too much academic and has hard time to adapt.
Academic English/French/Portuguese/Spanish or whatever can hardly evolve. English American is the perfect example of how living and evolving language it is, it adapts almost instantly to whatever situation to make it easy to explain/understand without having to write some 10 pages dissertation. This is fantastic.
