I was chatting to a guy I know at work today and we got onto the subject of games which led me to mention Eve (obviously).

He said he used to play the game back in Beta in 2003 with a corp called m0o but hadn't played for a long time. It turns out it's the m0o who caused such mayhem when the game first got released:

He used to fly under the name of Corvanhillo if anyone remembers him.

For a while, at the start, these guys appear to have been superstars in Eve and have the dubious honour of being the only corp to actually cause CCP to directly intervene in a combat situation.

He remembers the game fondly. I thought that was pretty interesting.

EDIT: Apparently he still knows J0rt in RL who is listed as one of the notable names from the original roster.

I joined the game too late to appreciate M0o, but the stories I've heard have always been appropriately epic. Guys like them are what make EVE stand heads and shoulders above other games in terms of history and community.

I'm curious...what kind of job does he work in right now?

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

Just a regular IT guy?
Surely there must be some aura of awesomeness surrounding him....

m0o (to spell their name correctly) were one of the most awesome and legendary corps in EVE Online.

I was around as a player back in 2003 when they were at their height, and I've never seen a corp so coherent, so focused and a corp that works so well together in combat since.

Some of the biggest names in the history of the game were part of m0o.

Cool

Sounds a lot like m0o used game mechanics to their advantage, much like James 315 does these days.
Would that be a correct observation?

Please let's not turn this into another James 315 discussion....

However, on the game mechanics, you have to remember that the game was still in its infancy. Many of the mechanics we take for granted today were the result of those guys pushing the boundaries.

I remember them well. They where about the only people I use to see in 0.0. Usually gate camping.

I got a few nice kills from them, very early days

Theres a bit of a difference between an 'organisation' that represented a very real threat in the game, and someone who is at best, a min(er)or nuisance Cool

m0o were the original terrorists of EVE. I would love to see the bears of today suffer the chaos they used to inflict upon high sec.

So..when you two leave the building after work, you will have to do something for him.
When you pass the door, grab his head and violently smash it against the doorframe, then grab his wallet, scream "Ganked!" and run away as fast as you can.
No matter his outside reaction, deep inside he will appreciate it.
It's the least we can do to honour our valiant veterans.
It's what he would have wanted.
