How does her/his gender influence in any way shape or form how you play with them or what they do in eve online?

Are we not reflections of our characters when in game? Does having a ***** make me better at mining or pvp? Does having a vagina?

What is the reasoning for gender on the internet, and specifically gender inside of a video game where it simply does not matter?

When I ask these questions, the only way you can possibly come to a logical conclusion, is the innate desire for attention that a female has - I'm not faulting her on this - I'm simply confused why, when met with such hostility when bringing it up every time, women like this continue to use video games as an outlet beyond having fun. What's the point of getting attention from other people playing video games based entirely on the fact of your gender?

I think you and people like you are why topics like this exist. Female gamers can sometimes be subjected to harsh treatment just for being female. Don't believe me? You have never paid attention to yourself. Grow up.

To the OP: MintChip seems really cool and she talks about her WGoE channel every now and then. I would suggest checking it out. If I were a girl I'd definitely do so.

Ding. Ding. Ding.

Well said, Sir.

I got my girlfriend/SO to play for a while. Since we both spent a lot of time playing video games, I thought it'd be great to have one where we could play together (The only alternative was me joining WoW, and I mean - it's WoW). First couple of weeks was cool; I showed her around, then she began following along and salvaging my sleeper wrecks in her Coromorant.

After a while she left the wormhole and started mining. "Just a phase, it'll pass" I thought. But no, all she did every time she played was sit in front of an asteroid field and watch those goddamn mining lasers. Weeks passed and she was still doing the same inane stuff, and it just bummed me out.

It wasn't exactly a secret where she'd mine with her Hulk, given the fact that she sat right next to me. After a lengthy IRL fight I ended up suicide ganking her.

We're not together anymore.

Partially. There is no causal connection between we not being together anymore and in-game events, as I implied, but other than that it was probably one of the truer stories I've told on the interwebs.

OK yeah. That explains A LOT. The PvP world is much different and most the Indy folks I know in Alliance stayed off of comms for their own sanity.

I was actually really surprised the first time I heard a woman speak up on comms in my alliance. Not because it was a woman speaking, but because nobody made any remarks about it.

To me that says: maybe you should find a more mature group of players.

Maybe you're trying to be helpful or you've misunderstood that I'm not making this issue about my personal satisfaction with the game. It's hard to tell in this thread.

Besides, this experience was seen repeatedly, for example, via one corp of mature players having made three alliance (one major, two minor) moves for various reasons.

Otherwise, I can fly at any given time with mature players (acquaintances/friends) in Eve in different corps -- but given logistics, piracy (which I left), activity level, or what not, I don't wish to commit to any of them at this time.

I probably wouldn't return to null either without my own carrier, which I'm getting around to and I know a few mature but smaller groups living there -- some of whom I'm sure will be or have been snuffed out.

Though, indeed, I have applied to a corp that comes with good reference and has the type of PvP I'm looking for.

If it pans out, I'm sure it will improve my satisfaction with the game; otherwise the aforementioned issues noted (not just by me) seem a bit widespread. So, it's not as easy as it sounds, esp. if you have particular (active, legit, mostly drama-free etc.) PvP interests.

P.S. I'm glad to hear RAZOR is mature in your experience. I'd love to hear the female's POV too. :)

Nah, I'm just merely saying you shouldn't have to refrain from speaking up on comms just because you're female and don't want to draw attention to yourself.

And one of the women in our alliance happens to be one of the directors.

The questionare would also be unanswerable by hyperfeminists who prefer the spelling 'womyn' so that there's no 'man' in there

Hilariously, the english word "Woman" is the root! Originally it was "Woman" for females, "Werman" for males, and "Man" as neuter. So the whole womyn thing is idiotic babble and nothing more.

I think the interest in whether or not a given char has the same sex as the gamer playing them is really only relevant to people doing RP that make emotional connections with other players and wonder if it's a creep on the other end or if they can feel "normal" having these connections.

If you play EvE online the same way people play CoD or MW, i.e. like any number of PvP corps, just for combat and ego and greifing and pewpew, who cares? If someone is IRL female, you can chat them up on TS and impress each other with your 1337 gamer skills, encyclopedic knowledge of internet memes and witty reparte.

I think it's understandable.

Actually, the alternative was paying with ISK like most people do... Roll

hmmm.. someone gave this thread some CPR to bring it back to life,

I am a woman. I do love going into a new comms room and saying hello...

(EDIT: LOL.. How is it the the word P-O-R-N got replaced by **** in the below post??? never knew that word isn't allowed on the forums..)

I also laugh at the story of the man who, after I first said hello, linked a male porn star's pic in TS specifically to me. Hello??? You think that you show me a pic of a male porn star that I will suddenly go weak at the knees, grab your icon and drag you into a ~special private chat time with me? Baby musta been going through a bad booster reaction to think that. Go back to your CQ and deal.

Instead I pointed out to the other men in TS that this guy was linking male porn star pics to THEM. hehehe...

I'm not a carebear... I'm a SPACE BARBIE!  Now... where's Ken?

You're talking about feminists as if they're some sort of hive-mind who all share the same thoughts, ideas and opinions.

Them's just people. Some of them is reasonable. Some of them is batshit crazy. Some of them just want access to the same jobs for the same pay. Some of them want to be special princesses but without all the prince stuff. Some of them want to be treated as persons first and women second. Some of them want to be treated as divine goddesses of some kind.

Good people, bad people and many, many in between. That's kinda how the world works.

True, but it's been feeling particularly...monolithic...of late around hereUgh

It's like all the crazies are suddenly crawling out from...well, wherever it is they crawl out from...in the last few years since that batshit loooooooooony Andrea Dworkin died, I dunno, maing vOv

The ones who expect, and feel that they are entitled to "divine treatment," simply because they're women, using feminist dogma--the more radical of which would be considered hate-speech in Canada, just change the word "man" to say, "Black" or "Latino," or whatever, and see how it then sounds--to justify that mentality

Again, there seem to be an awful lot of those hereabouts--these are my particular un-favourites.

(I won't even consider dating North American women--at all--anymore, because all the ones I have, have shown this mentality, for example. I am not a walking ATM machine that you are entitled to just because you offer a dip in a stinking...errrm..."high-mileage" hole in "exchange" either, so don't flatter yourself honey: I can hire a prostitute or an escort any time I like for that...)

We should hook up bro. We think so much alike it's not even funny (except for the prostitute thing...why pay for things that are free?).

Tom Leykis listener perhaps?
