If you're only making 20-30 million ISK an hour in null sec killing NPCs you're doing something very, very wrong. I can make 35 - 40 million in a single 20 minute tick on the server.

Some rats can be pretty crappy. Guristas will jam, and getting jammed repeatedly really cuts into overall damage. You can use drones or eccm to get around it, but it is a compromise.

It also depends heavily on what you are ratting with. And if you are making 40mil/tick, you probably have high skills and a well fit ship. Or more than likely, multiple characters with high skills and well fit ships. Bittervets often get a certain lack of perspective at that stage, and think that any form of PvE that doesn't involve fighter assisted T3 or faction battleships and booster alts is "doing it wrong".

in general though, 30mil/hour (10mil/tick) is pretty average for a modestly skilled/fitted battlecruiser. Especially if they rely on a lot of belt ratting because they aren't using a sov system with upgrades.

imho, the trick is to enjoy what you do and forget what it makes.

As soon as it becomes I must make n isk/hr or I need n isk so I can enjoy myself, the enjoyment starts to wane - considerably.

but

1. only 100 million is profit
2. its a ****** business
3. It stops me from doing anything else why bother

The difference of course is that petty mugging isn't supposed to make jack. True PvP profits are fights for control of the spacelanes and resource wells, not petty jacking.
