Seeing as this monster is about to land and begin wrecking our stuff i thought someone should make a thread to consolidate all the news. Should be an interesting next couple days.

What we know so far:

It's big, and coming for New York.

Frankie has also issued a warning for the New Jersey Area.

And i'd like to get in early saying there's some highly suspicious things about the path it's taking. Could it be manipulated somehow? A reptilian shapeshifter plot to stall the elections for some terrible reason?

Will update with news of destruction when i can. Hopefully there won't be much.

Stay safe any EVE players in affected areas.

Live Stream from New York.

Live Updates from NYtimes.

Up in Toronto I have never seen winds like this. I hope power doesn't go out but I bet it will. It hasn't even hit yet. Sad

Around 4th of July this year we had a bit of weather. The power was gone for nearly a week. I was nearly bored to tears. My advice: get some batteries and radio, put some talk radio on.

I'm a little further up the east coast so i'm not really feeling it yet, but should be soon.

Just crazy watching what's going on in NY. CNN is saying 2.8 million without power. Guy in the live stream says he can smell burned rubber strongly everywhere, from the exploding transformers. Could take a long time to get power back.

I just checked all this out in Australia.

I saw 3 photos.

2 of cars driving - 1 on the shoreline and 1 on a flooded street.
1 of people standing near a beach "playing".

I watched a video of a crane boom falling with hundreds of people on the street.

And I asked wtf were you thinking??!?!?!

People cannot be THAT stupid, surely? And yet..... Shocked

>> For those that got/going through it and did the sensible things - heartfelts from Aus. Hope all is well.

^^ what these morons CAN'T FIGURE OUT is SOMEONE ELSE has to rescue them if things go pear-shaped.

I stay off the east coast for this exact reason.

Too bad though, I'd love to move to New Orleans

Think the worst of it is over now. Tide has peaked and the eye passed.

Doesn't seem like it was extremely devastating, but we've yet to see just how much damage it did.

It was Category 1, the devastating part was just hype by MSM.

The lights flickered about 30 times in 5 hours and that was it.

Category is mainly about wind speed, and if we learned anything from New Orleans it's that the storm surge is what you need to watch out for. It still brought a lot of water inland, but with the massive size i was expecting even more. I think it claimed the record for having the lowest barometric pressure.

Radio over here hooked up with an abc report. They made it sound like the day after tomorrow...

It wasnt even a hurricane when it hit so makes you wonder what sort of damage a cat 5 would manage. Also yes, people are dumb.

Six more inches of water and they are going to start cooling the NJ nuclear power plant with fire hoses as the pumps fail...

Then next high tide comes at 10am, could be worse...

It may not have been strong, but it was big, came in on high tide and on the full moon. Buoys were moving some 35 ft high.

edit: Suffolk county emergency management saying the coming 10am tide may not be as high. I suppose if this had been a cat 2, NJ could be glowing right now?

If you've got mountains to the west and a river running through NY it might be worse.

good luck!

Well, here in the DC area we seem to have dodged the bullet - mostly some flooded roads and some power outages in treed areas. NY and NJ not looking so good this morning though.

Also, Federal Government has been shut down for two days, causing the deficit to recede slightly...

Well if we can convince them to to extend that to four days, that would cover the estimated $20 billion in damages from the hurricane.

I'm sure if New York were still Nieuw Amsterdam, the Dutch would have seen fit to avoid all this damage with dikes and seawalls and such.
