I'm new to eve, and want to PvP.
I know in low-sec you take a security hit for attacking others, but what about nul-sec? Do you get away with it there?

Yes, anything goes in NullSec, no security standing hit.So yeah, you kill thousands of pods in Null and walk into highsec no problem. Me gusta

low sec is harder IMO because of gate aggro mechanics.... me no gusta

That's if you make it through the bubble camps that sit on every gate into nullsec Pirate

You can also join Faction warfare, this solves the problem of the gateguns in lowsec.

Hello Toby Tr'avis,

Welcome to EVE! There are many activities in EVE which involve PVP and combat in space is only one of them. Market and industry PVP are two examples of non-combat PVP, both can be exciting, profitable and pretty rough as well.

It seems that most of your questions are already answered in this thread by the good EVE community. But I want to point out that you can do PVP also in highsec. One way is to declare war on other corporations/alliancen (called "wardec"): After a fee and 24 hours you are allowed to fight the opponent everywhere - of course it works the other way round as well.

Some corps use the wardec mechanics to have a mutal war going on with the sole purpose of providing PVP in highsec, one example is Red vs Blue. Mercenary corps, which are specialized on highsec warfare, provide also PVP in highsec.

Good luck!

Hmmm... why are there bubble camps on the gates into nullsec?
Because they work. They catch people. This proves that you can't always be "fine".

Tell me, what rudimentary precautions should I take if I come through a gate and find myself inside a bubble swarming with drones that knock my cloak off? If you have an automatic get-out for that, please share.

- Don't move... hold cloak (you have 1 minute and "gatecloak" cannot be disrupted unless you DO something, so sit tight and don't panic)
- Watch and wait for as many interceptors to be as far away as possible from you
- Make sure your session timer is up (15 - 20 seconds I believe)
- Select the gate you came from
- Hit "Approach" and your MWD
- DO NOT take offensive actions against of those who shoot at you (don't even release your drones)
- If you have enough speed and/or tank and/or you do not get double-webbed/scrammed you will make it back to the gate and can jump through

Er... My cloak has just been knocked off by drones which are swarming through the bubbles specifically to perform that function. MWD will not work in a bubble. Session timer is 30 secs.

anything but warping off works on bubble so if you scramble you might make it back to gate, ofc. if those ceptors have scram (they usually have) your MWD is obviously useless. Roll

you said EVERY gate was camped.
Wrong - they are not. Not by a long shot.

As far as precautions? scout?

As far as being caught in a bubble all you have to do is hold cloak, acess the situation and speed back to the gate.
There are ships dedicated to this very thing ffs.

If you don't know what you are talking about it would behoove you not to give bad advice to new players.
Rather you could try asking for some yourself.

uhhh your cloak on jumping into a gate cannot be disturbed by proximity. You can only lose your cloak if you are in a cloaky ship with a cloak activated that can then lose it's ability to cloak due to proximity.
As well you can use your MWD in a bubble.
Have you even been to 0.0?

But if you are convinced that YOU can't cut it in 0.0 you may be correct.
Just don't assume that everyone is as fail as you.

3 things:

1. The cloak that the gates give CANNOT be interrupted by anything unless you MOVE or DO something. That's why I said "wait."

2. Your MWD works in bubbles. The only thing that can shut them down is a warp scrambler... and what's why I mentioned that you should WAIT until most of the Interceptors orbiting the gate are far enough from you. It takes a good second or three for them to change their direction towards you AND get close enough to use a scram (with is a little over 13km when overheated and with level 5 skills)... by which time you should have a fair bit of velocity to carry you to the gate.
Btw... the tactic I described above is even easier when you are using a cloaking-capable ship. Just hit the cloak right after you activate the MWD. You'll still be decloaked but, again, by that time you should have enough speed hit the gate before you tank fails.

3. It sounds like you are describing a "drag bubble" which requires completely different tactics. My favorite tactic is to warp to a celestial closest to the gate I think is camped... use D-scan to figure out how many bubbles there might be... and if I only pick up one or two bubbles I guesstimate which angle will be most "clear" (hint: such camps are trying to nab people coming from the direction of the gate(s) that see(s) the most traffic... the "off" angle(s) of the gate are usually not "camped" [as much])

Roll
http://evemaps.dotlan.net/ is your friend (or in game maps). Always check the ship kills 1/24hrs, and avoid obvious choke points like HED-GP and EC-P8R.

I remember visiting Tenal a few months back, I hit a total of zero bubbles on my way there from Amarr, and only one on my way back.

Edit:
When in unfamiliar nullsec, never warp directly from gate to gate, always warp to a celestial of some sort so that you can d-scan the gate for bubbles, and warp in from a different direction.
