Display the most expensive killmail kill on the login screen startup of the day.

Everyone wants to be famous for their hard efforts of pew pewing..
Do it properly so it doesn't make the game look arcadey on startup and you will have a winner.

That encourages belligerent undesirable behaviour. Why not give the hard-working miners some recognition instead?
Display a list of characters who have mined the most ore and ice in the last 24 hours.

Who put the goat in there?

Yes good idea! thats a good way to spot those macro miners, i think you just unwittingly found a solution to the macro problem.

The only real counter to this behavior is to threaten to kill them IRL in local or by EVE Mail whilst calling them lifeless sociopaths.

That'll teach em.

Because PvPers need to stroke themselves more?

Because people would like to see Orcas 235 days in a row followed by a 46 billion isk mining Titan?

Because blobbing counts as hard work and effort?

But I vote for an ingame killboard anyways. Show me kills and losses in character / corp / alliance info etc.

Don't be scared, because being afk is not a crime.

This would actually be a fun idea for the biggest solo kills.

The problem is that the victim would be tormented by a significant minority of the community and may end up quitting the game through embarrassment.

So while it seems a good idea in concept, it sadly isn't feasible in reality unless it were anonymous.

“PvP competition”. Isn't that a bit redundant?

You would have to ban them for being Bots then.

Heres a fix to expensive blob killmails

A quick masshed up algorithm, might be errors in it but you get it.
Basically we use a score system instead of isk alone.

The score system takes into account the isk lost and the amount of parties involved, meaning less parties with slightly less isk damage is a better kill.

x = isk damage
y = amount of players involved

score = (y / ((y / x) * x));

highest score will be the top isk kill

Yes but they get a cute little certificate first with their name on it and a congratulatory handshake before they are put up against the wall and shot.
