Have you considered a satellite based internet connection. You will still have high ping times but stability and bandwidth will improve greatly. I haven't seen a benchmark test that bad since dial up. Shocked

If you are suffering from disconnects due to idle connection, open a command prompt and type "ping -t google.com" that should keep your connection alive.

Move to civilization. I'd only expect such bad internet on the coast of Somalia or in the middle of the Amazon rainforest. ShockedUgh

I don't like satellite much, not for gaming, your ping rate counts... though better than your current connection at least on transfer rate apart from latency.

Anyway, depends where you live. I assume you have cell phones there? I went from dial-up (a good dial-up actually), to DSL (until Verizon dumped my neighborhood and left nothing but broken promises for Fios which passed by and didn't run here grrrr), then to 3G and now on 4G. Told verizon to f-off and canceled their land-line.

4G I get around 2MB a second down at 50ms ping, like 2 seconds for an mp3 song, and I'm pretty far from the tower. I play not only mmo's with it, but shooters. 3G will do well too, if you don't have 4G there yet. If you are in the US, chances are you are in 3G range. If not in range, 2G is very likely, which is still better than dial-up and satellite. But, all depends where you live. You can google for 3g/4g maps that show distance to towers for available carriers. Like there is a closer tower to me, but by a different 4G provider that has higher rates and overage costs as well as requires a cell phone rather than a mobile hotspot device. So you would need to look at tower ranges, and then look at what they offer, what best fits you.

Only greenhorns suggest move to the city :P f the city, I grew up in a huge city and never going back.

edit oh yeah I see you are in KS, I'd google up those towers, see what's closer. My 4G is like 6 miles away, works absolutely great for games. Caution on bargain carriers, they can be pretty bad. I suggest t-mobile or something equivalent. Wildblue is satellite, so yeah very high latency, no good for games. You should be getting better Mbit transfer though, but you can't improve ping with that system.

Holy mother of... Upgrade your internet connection from Carrier Pigeon to something...anything. Seriously...youd almost get better bandwith handwriting the 1s and 0s out on paper and sending it in thru the mail service. Ive heard of people using their phones as hotspots...perhaps that?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

You click on the map, scroll it to your general location and select the server location to test on. That was still too high for any server in the nation. You shouldn't even ping that bad to London where the EVE server is. You might want to get a tracerout program and see how you do pinging the EVE servers.

Now you need to determine where the packet loss is happening. You should have results from that application. So there should be a log file, that you might want to send to your ISP tech support. Even if it is not happening on their system, they can contact the administer of the offending system to possibly resolve any issues.

You could use one of these kinds of service, I have heard a great many things about these and from what I've read I'm sure you would welcome such a service. I think this one has a free trial [yes the full service is paid for] but it simply reroutes your traffic to a less congested route lowering your ping.

I've read of 500 ping being halved by these services.
