It would be interesting to fly a "long-range" version of a fighter and fighter-bomber that comes equipped with a pod and all fitting slots filled with inherent equipment - but maybe fighter and bomber command ships are a better option for all regions of space.

Strategic Fighter Command Frigate:
Description: Primarily used as a scout for transport convoys and carriers operating in deep space, this destroyer sized vessel can penetrate deeply into enemy territory with swift attacks.
Assault Ships skill bonus: 5% Reduction in the amount of heat damage absorbed by modules per level.
Interdictors skill bonus: +1 to the drone control limit per level (50m3 drone bay, 50 Mbit bandwidth).

Strategic Bomber Command Battleship:
Description: Primarily used as an escort for transport convoys and carriers operating in deep space, this battlecruiser sized vessel can smash though enemy lines with powerful attacks.
Heavy Assault Ships skill bonus: 5% Reduction in the amount of heat damage absorbed by modules per level.
Heavy Interdictors skill bonus: +1 to the drone control limit per level (100m3 drone bay, 100 Mbit bandwith).

I have expressed the idea before about flying fighters and fighter/bombers with only skills and implants modifying their abilities and people were interested in the challenges this would pose.
