Please have a look at my comments in the ‘Duality Open period’ thread, especially my remarks on colour blind usage.

This link to a color-blind simulator webapp may be of help: http://www.etre.com/tools/colourblindsimulator/

It will let you remap small images to show you how they will appear to players with various types of color-blindness.

Haven't been paying attention to the newest developments as I'm being a bad team member and doing my own things because they need doing.

But I trust Karkur implicitly because she's awesome at what she does and has already made many great improvements for the game already which should count for some trust. Obviously I wont be promising any work on her behalf, and you don´t want me doing any of this work because of see below. I'm also certain that whatever she does will annoy me, to some degree, as it wont be the st00pid UI I've grown used to over the years. But I recognize that sometimes you just have to take your idiot baby out behind the shed and put it out of its misery so you can replace it with Baby 2.0.

There´s not much more I can contribute here as I'm not really an authority on User Interfaces. For example, I don´t see any problem with this UI. Seems very functional and explicit to me.

the graphical interface for wget made my day. its a one liner with a shell. poor windows people

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I’ve done a bit more testing today and find the new targeting reticules ‘OK’, I won’t say they are good simply because of the colour problems I’m having but I do like them.

However a couple of small points from me;
1, The targeting damage indicators; the damage reduction mark going anticlockwise seems intuitive, but the segments also displayed anticlockwise does not seem ‘logical’, I would have preferred Shield (Top Left), Armour (Top Right) and Structure (Bottom). Both shields and armour should have visual priority over structure because by the time you see structure going down you are almost dead anyway. This also compliments the UK roundabout signs and our ‘normal’ way of rotating a circular object (other countries may differ).

Someone did post a picture with the segments shown with a small arrow pointer and tail showing the direction of reduction, now that looked excellent (I know colour of the segments is still under consideration so I’ll wait for updates to that).

2, The target list icons seem too big, the picture in the middle is just too much and the complete target icon seems visually overbearing and takes up real-estate.

3, During the last test while using a salvager module I did notice the very fine line that extended from the salvager icon on the HUD to the target and from there to the target icon in the list. Not sure why we need this as it achieves nothing that I can see, also being in red it was extremely difficult to see against many backgrounds.
Its appearance was also very erratic and it did not appear every time when the salvage icon was hovered over by the mouse pointer.

4, Because of the limitations of the current build on Duality and the lack of rendered objects it would be unfair to comment on the ‘Hit and Targeting Reporting’ being done by flashing certain parts of the targeting reticules, suffice to say for me they are useless because of the colour (red/yellow) and brightness (very subtle).

For those who wish to delve more deeply into colour defectiveness there is a simple test here;
Colour Check
If you scroll down to the colour picture with the colour bars mine is the 'Protanoptia', the second line.

Hey all, its been a long time request on the forums.

On the HUD where your target icon list is, can you stop that list from automaticaly shuffling when one target is killed/unlocked etc. This would be a massive improvement because if you go to click a locked target say 3rd in the list and the 5th target is remvoed in the same moment, the target list shuffles over to the right and you click the wrong item. You would click the 2nd locked item in this example.

The locked targets should always hold thier given place in that list and never re-shuffle.

I actually just textwalled here a bit with feedback, but here's the salient points:

Could you please up the contrast on the text under the targeted icons? The text is a lot thinner and greyer, and when I'm looking at my list of targets I care a whole lot more about name than picture.

In fact, could we have an option to change how much text we see under the icon in the same way that we choose columns in the overview? It seems to take up way more space than it used to, and I don't actually need all of that information all the time.

I also like shield at the top left, armor at the top right, and hull on the bottom. It fulfills both the tendency to read left to right and the tendency to think of it as shield over armor over hull due to the way the HUD is laid out.

The outlines and tickmarks for the health notifications are excellent for contrasting the health bars against the darkness of space and I thank you for them, but could you make the bars a little wider and the thumbnail of the ship picture a little smaller and more separated from the health bars? The pictures dominate the target list now that the health bars are on the circumference of the ship thumbnails instead of all being grouped under them in a separate, visually distinct list. I'd like it a lot if the health bars were bigger and bolder with a more modest, less space-consuming picture of the targeted ship (i.e. one that doesn't have a good half centimeter of generic racial background around the ship taking up space).

edit: I don't have much to say about the targeting reticules because they're red on black and they kind of fade in and out, so basically they're invisible unless I'm really looking for them. I don't mind that as much because I prefer not to be distracted by brackets in space when I'm focusing on my overview and whatnot, but other people with poor vision might care more.

I have illustrated my thoughts on the "Point camera to selected item" feature here. On top of making the default position lower, it would be nice to give us the option of customizing where the default position is.

This actually sounds like a great way to start thinning out the overview overall. Transporting information on the overview to the HUD in a clear, cool, and simple way gets us closer to something that looks like this if not better.

would it be possible to have an on/off selection for the coloured text damage indicators plz?
feel like its taking up quite a bit of screen real estate.
(if there already is i apologise for asking a redundant question)

ohh and an always on for hostile locking and hostile firing brackets even if we have brackets off plz!

What do you think about having some information show up next to the target in space.? It would be awesome if things like velocity, angular velocity, radial velocity, etc. could be shown next to the target.

On the subject of damage notifications, it would be great if we could change the size of the font for them and customize where they appear on the HUD.

Some of the black box notifications are still present. It would be great if those notifications looked like the new damage notifications.

Reposting my feedback on the new damage notifications.

Damage notifications from multiple drones should be merged into a single message. Programming wise, collect the damage from drones and every x seconds display it while resetting the damage counter. The x should be something that roughly or exactly matches drone attack speed.

I think there is some room to improve the way the text pops into existence and disappears. I think it should appear faster but stay for slightly longer.

Lock timer - needed.

Velocity Indicators needed = readouts showing the stuff on the current overview - angular, etc...

Otherwise looks good.

I play with all brackets visible and even with my pvp overview loaded (only enemy ships) I still got the 'can target' graphics on all cans, wrecks and drones. In the small scale fights it was very helpful, being able to see who was in range and who was out, but in larger engagements with hundreds of drones and hundreds of wrecks I can only imagine having the 'can target' graphic on every single object on grid (imagine flying a range tanked blackbird) will become extremely frustrating. What about an option so that the 'can target' graphic only applies to current overview settings?

-point camera to selected item
can you make it so theres an extra option in addition to "point camera to selected item" can you add an extra function "point camera to currently targeted item" and as somone said maybe adjusting where the object is centred verticaly its a bit high at the moment.

I think the new targeting reticules need more information to be a true upgrade, something like transversal and angular velocity.
Infact anything you can add to the overview should be sellectable by the player in a settings window for the inspace targeting reticules.

Small Chat box Change

There is a massive ammount of wasted pixels on the chat box windows at the moment in game. Currently you can only reduce the input windows height to two lines tall, this should be one line tall in my opinion.

Copy over from duality open period thread:

Salpun:

Nice new notifications. Option to move needed badly. Punkturis says its in work YES.

Point camera option in Selected items window needs an option for a second selected item so drones and target of the drones can be be both viewed. Location of camera focus needs to be changable. But looks good for now.

Blake Armitage wrote:1. I'm noticing that there isn't always a space between "damage" and "from".

BTW the new smooth scrolling notification text is so much better than the previous dialogue box.

2. Can you add the ability to left/right justify the notification area? My OCD wants to be able to move it over to the left above my chat area.

3. The timer notification for the Micro Jump drive was in the 'old' format. Are just damage notifications going to be updated with the nice scroll text or will all pilot notifications eventually move to this new scroll format?
