As the title suggests i am looking for a good starting point to start my career as a hauler.

I am NOT posting here looking for work (though that would be nice) Big smile

What i AM looking for is guidance on what i should be doing to get myself out there as a new hauler/Courier.
I took a look at the contracts in the Neocon but the collateral vs isk per jump is ridiculous ( 2million down for 40k isk ?) What?

I really like the idea of this career path but some additional guidance would be great.

I don't haul myself, I'll usually just liquidate if I move. But my understanding is that most hauling contracts will require a high collateral (I'd assume for the approximate value of the goods being hauled), usually higher than the payoff.

I'd recommend looking for a hauling/industrial corp (you can check corp forum or 'Recruitment' channel in-game). You may also want to ask in the science and industry forum. There are many organized public channels of a wide variety, and there may be one for hauling contracts.

I tried being a courier when I first started, making lowsec runs was actually quite a bit of fun. You can check for courier contracts from the contracts window (one of the icons on the left). Many of them will have crazy huge collateral, but not all. Be very careful about accepting contracts to lowsec/nullsec or contracts that look too good to be true (they often are), and there are a few courier-related scams out there.

Well, I have two suggestions, for solving your minor problem. 1: Join a corp who needs to get stuff hauled frequently, and get a bit of ISK for doing it. 2: Find some small-scale courier contracts first, until you can fly a bigger ship and can afford taking on bigger hauling tasks.

I know I can easily set up some courier contracts for you to carry out with a decent pay if you feel like it.

It can help to have an alt accept the hauling contract, then have them transfer it to you. That way, it's not immediately obvious that it's you moving someone's stuff. In the event of a planned gank on the way.

Woo! CSM XI!

I usually set up 1% of the collateral as reward and have no problem getting that contract picked up.

Of course this is between trade hubs, no lo-sec and not that much m3 (around 1000m3).....

To be more specific, watch for the low-sec hauling scam where you pay a lot more collateral than what the items are worth. Example, you pay 10mil collateral. The items are worth 2mil. When you enter low-sec, your contractor blows you up and gets the 10mil collateral, and maybe some of the contracted items back. Plus some lulz and your ship on his killboard. What?

Yes, heed the words of Mr Bauhaus! Be very careful where you're hauling stuff!
