Hi,

I'm a returning player (last time I logged in was 2005 and there was no walking around back then) I have over 14, 000,000 skill points and a few mill in the bank but I may as well be a complete novice for all the changes since I last played.

Never been one for PVP so I fancied missions as a starting block, I have plenty of contacts and some of level 4. Can anyone tell an old space dog what sort of ships I should be flying for level 4's, if they are solo-able? also what are complexes?

Complexes are set sites you have to scan(unless you do static ones). They are combat in nature and require different amounts of DPS/tank/skill.
At the end you have a chance of loot which is set by complex but random in what you get! Some of itis good income, some sucky

Nice one thanks for the info on complexes.

I'll get reading into scanning then as the helpful poster above said.

very short lvl4 mission TLDR:
you can and should run solo. you will need a battleship with ~500/sec rat-specific stable tank, at least 50-60km range and as much dps as possible. train for T2 light drones or risk losing your ship. read mission descriptions on eve-survival.org or risk losing your ship. best ships for lvl4s are machariel, nightmare, vargur, raven navy issue, vindicator, kronos.

edit: solid cheap mission ships: maelstrom, apocalypse, dominix, scorpion navy issue.

I should buy an Ishtar.

Excellent thanks Daniel, I really appreciate that. I've been looking up the Rokh as a mission runner it seemed to fit the bill from what I read, I will take a look at the other ships you suggested here.

The Rokh should only be flown in missions if you really, really want to fly a Rokh. It is not efficient or preferred in any way.

If you must use hybrids, go with any of the Gallente ships. If you want to stick with Caldari, look at missiles.

^^^^^ This, Rokh is not great for missioning, sadly Sad
Also if you mentioned your skills it would be easier to help, but it seems you are caldari trained, so go Raven, or navy scorp, or tengu.... also depends on skills.

I thought Jester's Trek's articles on level 4 mission running were pretty spot-on, both as an overview and in greater detail:

Definitely worth a look my .02

the rokh fails hard at dps. as zhilia already said, you should only fly it if you really really want to, otherwise take a look at the ships i mentioned earlier. also, if you haven't already, download EFT or pyfa to plan your ship fittings.

I should buy an Ishtar.

The problem with the Rokh is you could get better performance out of a Mega or Hyperion. It's the only Hybrid based Battleship that IIRC doesn't have a damage bonus to Hybrids.

Daniel's ship list earlier is pretty solid. If you're going to fly Caldari, start off with a Scorpion Navy Issue and look to move to either a Tengu or a Raven Navy Issue.

Thanks everyone for the really great input.

I ended up running level 3's in my old Ferox to get a few isk together and start saving for the Raven, I've got the right sort of skill set to perform a reasonable job in one so I'm going to go for that.

Again thanks everyone for the really helpful advice.

Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I
Large Warhead Rigor Catalyst I

Hobgoblin II x5

the tank is for gurista/serpentis. switch hardeners if you want to run against angels. running against blood/sansha is not a good idea.
the tank has two boosters, a small efficient one to save capacitor and extend your buffer as long as possible and the ancillary shield booster for when the fecal matter reaches the turbine. it should be under 400mil total; if you have more ISK to spend, upgrade the ballistic control units to caldari navy ones.

edit: you can replace the target painter with a sensor booster if you get jammed or sensor damped a lot. also, the tank is very much on the safe side, if/when you get comfortable, you can add on a second target painter instead of the invul.

I should buy an Ishtar.
