Changes to module tooltips

Greetings and salutations from Team Pony Express!

I wanted to go through the changes Team Pony Express has completed and are slated to be released with Retribution and are available on Duality right now! I believe we have made good progress towards making them more user friendly and informative!


  • Tooltips are now available on many more active modules than before!
  • Tooltip delay has been reduced slightly.


Furthermore we are hoping to get the following changes into Retribution as well, time permitting.


  • Tooltips won't appear if you click on a module.
  • Tooltips can be disabled in the HUD option (through the context menu).


All in all, the tooltips are a great addition to EVE by exposing information in an easy to understand manner. The changes to the functionality, the additional active modules it's available on and the planned future iterations should make this an even more awesome tool to have!

Please use this time to test them out on Duality, we would greatly appreciate any feedback you might have on their functionality and the information provided.

if we have the ability to disable them, can we have a reduced delay untill they show up ? .2 or .3 seconds ?

There is one odd thing:
If a module reloads and you hover over it, the tooltip appears, showing the module name. If you keep the mouse over the module with the tooltip "open" and the module ends reloading, the tooltip expands down, overlaying other modules.
It's not a huge issue, but still looks odd.

Nevertheless. Good job on making the UI nicer!

will the tooltip show the current resistance config of the reactive armor hardener?

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Please consider making this a three-state choice:

- Never show tooltips
- Show delayed tooltips
- Show tooltips instantly.

I know that many people don't really like the tooltips, but I know of a few (myself included) who enjoy them. I would like to have this kind of information at a glance, and having to hold my mouse over the button for a second slows me down.

I don't think we have added it yet, but there is a post-it on it on my desk... and hopefully I'll have the time to add it.

Would it be possible to have a right click option to show tooltip if you have them off? Since you have to hover over the modules to get the in range indicators in the HUD, having the tooltip pop up over the top makes it useless. (You could always put the tooltip in its own window, and let us move that window where we want)

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

Damage notifications are an improvement. Would look better as numbers over the module doing damage and under the ship taking damage.
Definetly needs to be able to be relocated.

What about adding activation timers like on the micro jump drive to the tool tips?

Can we please have the near-instant or instant one back? The biggest issue with when you changed it was the fact it was insanely large. Or atleast the ability to change the timing ourselves? (to 0 if we want?) Also, you could still do with a little less empty space all around.

Not a huge fan of the exra 3 lines used for "damage caused" And not entirely sure what it means. I know it has to do with overheating...but not sure the usefulness.

Seconded, allow us to set the delay in options much the same way we can change snap distance for windows.

Personally I would do away with the delay all together. I don't want to wait to see my opt or falloff in a combat situation (assuming I don't have it memorized already for that ship)

Edited for clarity:

Currently only Active modules will show more information than the basic information of the name of the module.

I don't think we will be able to do more to the timer in this release as we need to spend the remaining time on adding information to the modules and final polish to the functionality. Perhaps in subsequent releases.

The damage caused, do you have a screenshot for this? The specific module and the conditions would at least help me replicate it.

Can tracking be added to the turret tooltips?
Can Capacitor Energy use be added to the Microwarp and AB tooltips? The Microwarp tooltip doesn't need to have the non-activated speed as it is already in the trottle.

Actually Capacitor Energy use is a useful item on a lot of the tool tips.

maybe you could also show the speed when overheated for the propulsion mods

I know I'm silly, but there is a lot of modules were I find useful to check their stats while they are running : optimal range juste after switching hybrid ammo, range of my overloaded meta 2 scrambler because it was the only one that fit...
