I too wish EVE-O forums were more like Reddit, so we have cultural and intelligent debates like Reddit. For example:

- Made myself a coffee table, what do you think?
- I just bought more than 1 million …Facebook data entries for 5$. Oh, this is not the end of the story. I ve’got a phone call from Facebook “Policy department.
- Wallpaper in my boyfriends kitchen. When you see it...
- I(f) this gets a good response, ill post a ***** picture. (;

Long live upvote systems!

yeah..actually, what I wanted to say (but apparently failed to make clear) is:
"Don't turn Eve-O forums into Reddit."

I'd like to apologize for the poor quality of the post above and sincerely hope you didn't waste your time reading it. Yes, I do feel bad about it.

What is happening, is that someone with no sense of how the game works posts something about how terrible Eve is and then everyone berates them for it.

I disagree. What is more often happening is that people whom are VERY very knowlegeable about many of Eve's finer points & actually like Eve come here to point out its weaker points. Its the nature of almost all internet forums to come over as negitive much in the same way that news broadcasts show more train wrecks which leave a bigger impression then the warm puppy stories due to ratings.

Also the forums have become poloitical soapbox to lobby the DEVs to force thier part of the sanbox onto everyone else:

A good idea/post could have many likes
A crappy idea/post could have many dislikes

and if you can only like OR dislike once per thread, its not much of an issue. (alt accounts already taken into account)

yes theres a minority who would 'dislike' every post, but with only 1 clicky they arent going to make that much impact.

It would be too easy for the 'Dislikes' to be hi-jacked, en masse, on what could be an otherwise important issue.

That's one of the pitfalls of the democratic process such as this. Folks interpret it to mean that their Ignorance is just as important, and is as equal to, your Knowledge.

It unfortunately requires shuffling through the good and the bad.

Any kind of filtering, especially publicly, is highly suspect, as it should be.

The "Dislike" button has always been a popular idea and it would certainly be a step in the right direction.

And why is that ? Why is it a good idea ?

Because "likes" are overpowered. There is no counter to them. P

So you're saying everyone has to use likes in order to unlike.
A sure sign that something is balanced and working as intended.

You started with 0 and finished with 0.

How BALANCED do you want it???!

I believe that forums should have "sage"-like function, i.e. you post without bumping the thread in which you post.

I think people are misunderstanding my intention.

I'm not looking for one method over any other. I just think CCP needs a better way to measure the popularity of ideas posted on this forum. The "Like the OP" system is terrible. We should be able to rate threads good or bad (rather than posts), and yes I know this would be prone to exploitation, but only as much as the system we have now. Even with people exploiting the system CCP would still be able to get a better idea about popular opinion.

That way, you could read a thread and show you don't support the idea, without bumping it to the top. Read it, down rate it, and move to the next one.

This is also a good idea, if you absolutely have to post to say how terrible a thread is, you should be able to do it without keeping the damn thread constantly talked about by ticking some kind of "Do Not Dump" tickbox.

Edit: Also, try and posts constructively guys. "All the ideas are terrible" is not constructive. If you agree the forums are working suboptimal, try and make a suggestion, talk about pros and cons of various ideas etc.

Its because ccp neglected the player base for years and this is a very addictive game with a high level of "me"-feeling (dunno whats the words exacly). So loads of ppl took 3 yrs of bad bad reputation building, neglection and bad negative image and felt treated like ****. In the end the player base are customers and no one likes to be treated like a unwanted customer. Add the tartget group to it, high educuted intelligent people that have good memories and you create over a long period the most unwanted forum trolls full of hate that cant stop playing. And thats where we are now. No one is a born troll, you get made into one. And thats all their fault.

Any market gurou knows that is much much harder to "fix" a unhappy customer than making a neutral customer happy. Unfortualy for CCP, eve's target group is very small and survavability depends on "fixing" the unhappy customers. Besides that, trolling has been intergrated in ingame social mechanic's like in politics. Look at goons who claim "moral wins war's, not fights". They are right in that so people think trolling is a normal thing to do. Look at Kugu, its designed for trolling. Trolling is in eve a normal thing to do. Why? read above again. CCP made it, now it is at a point it is not fixable anymore. Like the techmoon holder's unlimeted isk stash creating game breaking disbalancements for years to come. Funny they find trolling so normal that it affect the entire eve's public image in any player based promotional appearance.... way to go break you own game even more.... dont think they realy want it anyway... lol (that one in funny :PP)

Told you so CCP years ago. You didnt want to listen so meh,

Chribba is right. The reason youtube got so popular was because it allowed people to indivudually sort and find videos. And an enourmous and constructive spread of information ensued. Of course this isnt in the interest of the TPTB hence youtube is constantly devolving and sorting by rating and all these kinds of stuff you could do back then have been removed.

Let's inject some risk into the forums and make three buttons, like, dislike and add bounty. To eliminate forum alts change it so that only the pilot on your account with the most time in space, as in the one you undock with the most, can post.

If a dislike button were to be added and some sort of ranking system used where by dislikes purged the thread from the system, I would prefer it be an individual setting that only effects what I see. By this I mean i go into my profile settings and say 10 dislikes will cause a thread to not be displayed. This way I can control only what I see, this way it's more pure content control and not just a popularity contest or some more ******** meta gaming. I mean what happens when two big alliances go to war and they start disliking each others posts? There's enough hate in the game as it is, allowing it to spill over into the forums via a ranking system is recipe for disaster.
