Am I just some special sort of lucky?

I'm in the middle of the Amarr epic arc and have to pick up some special biomass from a low sec research center and give it to a shady associate at the warp in gate. I blow up the research center, then start dropping the npc spawns; container drops with the last of the first npc spawn. It bleeps out of existence as I head to it.

Home sick, plenty of nyquel, but I check the logs, nope, didn't shoot it... where did it go and why would it choose this moment to bug out leaving me all alone and scared in low sec space? Petition made; tho I wonder if the daily server reset will save the day for me.

Is this a thing or am I really just unlucky and or stupid in some overlooked way?
